Shelby Code Red concept - 1,000 hp [video]

Code Red features a twin-turbocharged version of Ford's 5.4-liter engine that produces a total of 1,000 bhp (746 kW)

Here's a video of the Shelby Code Red concept, a one-of-a-kind creation of Shelby American in partnership with Nelson Racing Engines.

The video is a production of Nelson Racing Engines, which we've been a little slow to publish. But here it is in case you missed it last month when the car debuted in SEMA.

The car features a twin-turbocharged version of Ford's 5.4-liter engine that produces a total of 1,000 bhp (746 kW). It is fitted with Shelby Super Snake wheels by Alcoa in 9 x 20-inches at the front and 11 x 20-inches at the rear.

Top speed is 200 mph or 322 km/h.

Yeah, why didn't they tune it for 93? And that dude has to be loaded, a 2 year project like that, this is at least a 6 figure ugly mustang. The engine is pretty damn awesome though, shoulda squeezed some more cubes outta it.

i have to admit, the guys at nre really now what they are doing. im espcially impressed about that electronic controlled, vacuum, per gear boost thing. and the ecu i see is very smart..and oh yeah, the twin fuel tank also they really put their heart and brains into it. BUT....1000+ hp and only 200 mph? 91 octane? and a mustang? dont get me wrong i like the mustang. you have to as urslef, does that car deserve all that technology and of course, the money? and m5 or an rs6 can run faster, stock. and u have four doors and 5 seats. if i was an american, i think id buy (too bad they dont mention the price) for the money an zr1 or an viper ACR. it is a great package, but not for the mustang. and who the hell runs 91 octane in the 21st freakin` century...

Should be faster than that. Tuned Rs6 avant with two thirds the power hits 350... Unless its geared to max out at 320

You need a good way to get the power to the ground. Case in point...Porsche 911s(530 HP) vs Corvette ZR 1(638 HP) who does better

is it just me? because from the pics, i'm really really wondering why this car needs 3 fuel guages?????? 2 in the center plus the original! it just doesnt make sense, a EGT or Air/Fuel ration guage would do better in place of a 3rd fuel guage.....thats just my 2 cents.

Andy - its just you! Look again, on high res, the 2 addition guages are marked 'Fuel Press' thats PRESSURE not quantity....

oooh Weird, right after I posted the comment of that 2000hp car having power limiters based on the gear it is in, here comes nre with a car that does just that!

Why making it??? It's pointless. A 1000bhp Ford Mustang for what?? Mustang never will be a supercar. So why putting all that power into car which doesn't have supercar suspension, brakes,aerodynamics etc. Half that power Porsche or Aston would smash it on normal road without stupid drag race which it could win but later it would probably have to cool down or need a repair.

Mustang is as aerodynamical as brick and weighs a lot. And it will get very twitchy beyond 200 mph with a car that has 1000 hp through rear wheels and no aerodynamics.
