Ecclestone uses mugging bruises for sponsor advert
Bernie Ecclestone mugging Hublot advertisement, 600, 07.12.2010

Bernie Ecclestone has proved he can turn even a violent mugging into a commercial opportunity.

The F1 chief executive was viciously punched and kicked outside F1's London headquarters late last month as a reportedly hugely-expensive watch was taken from his wrist.

A graphic photo of his battered face is now featured on a print advert for his sport's official watch sponsor, including the Ecclestone quote: "See what people will do for a Hublot."

The Nyon-based Swiss watchmaker confirmed in a statement that the photograph and quote attributed to 80-year-old Ecclestone in the advert are genuine.

7sur7.be said the adverts will debut in the Financial Times and the International Herald Tribune on Wednesday.

Indian F1 driver Karun Chandhok said the move was "classic Mr. E".

What's sicker is that people like you up on your high horse think you are entitled to criticize him. It's his own injury, he can do what ever he wants with it. And in no way is this even close to shooting someone and making money out of it, unless it's the person who gets shot making the money, in which case, give him a break. He got shot, let something good come his way.

Oh dear.... I mean, for that "See what people will do for a Hublot" sentence could be heavily critisised for encouraging violence and crime. I don't think this advert is going to come out legally.

To all those bashing on him for using this as an opportunity for profit. It's his own injury, he can do what he wants with it, and anyone who judges him is just as bad as he is.

I'm not a fan of the guy by any means, but unless that picture is photoshopped to exagerrate the injuries, there is no way he deserved that either. And yeah, if he wants to use it for profit, why not? I think he's entitled to, specially given the beating he got.

Buy a Hublot and you too can be seen as a rich and greedy old bugger and become a mugging target.

He has a decent looking and intelligent girlfriend so it's okay by me. I wouldn't buy into Hublot though, they're the one's who are condoning this crap. A beaten up old man is still a beaten up old man. Maybe the gangs who target such people in central London (an increasing occurrence may I add) will see this advert as not only a justification for what they do for a living, but also as a motivator. Rich people with a false sense of security are such easy targets after all.

He is smart, and it?s proved. but Hublot marketing manager need to be fired! Such a negative message make me afraid to buy a Hubolt. all we know he receive this undesirable present because been Ecclestone, not for the watch. It?s a bad advertisement for all the swiss watch industry, even to F1.

As much as i think Bernie should retire and let younger blood take care of F1, this is nothing but a joke/pop at the muggers. Yes the advertising is there but i dont think this is meant to be a "look at me, i've been robbed and i'm making more money - advert" It's English Humour. I don't think we'll be seeing this advert in any papers - dont take this seriously guys.

What about this? http://www.yallaf1.com/2010/12/07/bernie-see-what-people-will-do-for-a-hublot/ When asked if Ecclestone get paid in any way for the advert, Hublot sponsoring manager Mike Croft said, ?No. The ad was his idea. To show defiance to his attackers more than anything else! Nothing to do with money.?
