Porsche Classic workshop shows restoration process [video]

Porsche Classic keeps old models in original form - over 70 percent of all Porsches ever built are still on the road

When was the last time you saw a Porsche on a scrap heap?

Well, it's an uncommon occurrence, as we learn from this video. Over 70 percent of all Porsche vehicles ever built are still on the road.

The Porsche 911 is also the most successful race car ever.

No wonder Porsche Classic has its hands full with restoring old models to their former glory. Porsche cars seem to like staying on the road.

This video shows us how Porsche Classic keeps automotive history alive with its restorations and events. We get a look inside the Porsche Classic workshop to see how they restore models that are decades old to their original configuration. That means keeping a supply of parts and maintaining the tooling to recreate parts that are no longer around.

Great stuff for the Porsche aficionados.

Surely the 30% that did not survive were the front engined 924, 944 and 928s

Yeah, a 911 is worth restoring. I've seen so many non-911s trundling around on their last days. Shame really, but new porsche owners would rather spend the money restoring an old 911.

Part of the 30% that didn't make were probably cars that were wrecked, this probably includes James Dean's 550 Spyder.

that's a clever marketing move. Bentley also had a thing like this: over 80 percent of all Bentley cars ever made are still in use and so on. the big idea is that you not buy only a performance car, you buy a piece of art, you buy that porsche and you become a member of a very special society, and so on and so on. Now, let's get serious: Santa, bring me a 911, would you?
