AMG chief makes announcement on coming SLS AMG roadster

AMG chief Ola Källenius has announced that the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster will be making its debut at the Frankfurt motor show next year.

In an interview with German car magazine Auto, Motor & Sport, the man who heads Mercedes-Benz's performance division made the announcement while lauding the SLS AMG Roadster debut as the brand's biggest launch of 2011.

The SLS Roadster will come with AMG's 6.3 liter (6,208cc) V8 featuring an output of 420 kW (571 PS / 563 hp) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. The 0-100 km/h sprint will take just 4.0 seconds and top speed on the Roadster will be 309 km/h (192 mph).

What the SLS AMG Roadster will not have (for obvious reasons) are the gullwing doors of the standard SLS AMG. Given that many critics found those doors to be an ostentatious design feature, the fact that they are absent on the Roadster may become its biggest selling point.

Also coming next year from AMG is the next CLS 63 AMG and the 2012 SLK AMG.

Why not AMG fit their new 5.5TT engine with slightly tuned to 580 hp? It has more torque and can get more hp by tuning the turbos

I am also wondering how that they didn't put the M157 engines in, but then I figure it out that 5.5L V8 TT will be the engine for Black Series, more hp and Nm and less consumption! so Black Series will be V8 5500ccm Biturbo and at least 600hp setting! also for Black Series it will be similary distinguished as Porsche 911 GT2 RS, so a lot of carbonfibre so it will be silver with carbonfibre black fitting as rear wing, front lip, side gills!

Thats because of the sound....You will never get the astonnishing noise from a 5.5L as you get from the 6.2l Its just mindblowing

I love the fact this car is being built and is coming out. But wont it in fact render the SL63 &65 meaningless? I know the SL have the metal roof which is a big difference and more livable as a daily driver. Just wondering what is the point of this car and I am not bashing it I think its beautiful/ What are your thoughts about my question?

No this car wont make the SL63/65 meaningless they are completely different cars. The SLS has 70bhp more and weighs a third less than an SL63... Its the sort of car you compare a Ferrari 458 with where as an SL63 is more 911 turbo material perhaps.

Saw a SLR on the 405 last night, great road presence and looks 100x better in person. The oldie driving even floored it (tried to race him in SL550) and the sound made my GF smile.

The badge.... simple.... the GTR is a superb car and cant be beaten on paper.... but are you saying that.... Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, Porsche, Bugatti.... etc.... rubbish because the GTR is faster? At the end of the day people will always buy these cars because its something to aspire too.... regardless of the GTR's 0-60 time...not everyone gives a shit about that! they want a proper supercar with a badge to match.. otherwise the established set may as well pack up and go home.
