Mad with power - the 2000 hp TranStar Racing Dagger GT latest renderings [video]

U.S.-based TranStar Racing promising the Dagger GT will break major automotive records

It was back in July when we first reported the Dagger GT, a 2000 horsepower hypercar intending to re-write the record books, was in development. The claims being made were a bit unbelievable and we were expecting the project to evaporate into oblivion.

Five months later not much has changed, except a new rendering (7 high-res photos attached) showing some subtle design changes. Ok, it's not much to go on, but the changes suggests work is being done.

Still skeptical until we see something more concrete, here's what we know of the Dagger GT so far: The Dagger GT is an ultra-super supercar being built by a dream-team of engineers put together by TranStar Racing which include aerodynamics experts formerly with NASA and the designer of the Saleen S7. TranStar has promised the car will break just about every record around, included the prestigious Nürburgring Nordschleife track time.

The design is based on the Corvette Cheetah concept with carbon fiber body panels on a 4130 Chromoly Steel chassis.

Under the hood?

A 572 multi-fuel (petrol/methanol/hydrogen/ethanol) twin turbo racing unit from Nelson Racing Engines (makers of the of the 1800 bhp Mosler Red Devil) producing a whopping 1,491 kW (2,000 bhp / 2,028 PS). Torque peaks at 2,710Nm (2,000 lb-ft) and the gearbox is a TranStar/Mendeola 6-speed transmission.  TranStar has recently added that a 2500 bhp option is available!

Times promised?

0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 1.5 seconds. A top speed of over 483 km/h (300mph). Quarter-mile in under 6.7 seconds. Very American, a good time on a straight-line, but how will it handle the 160 turns on the Nordschleife?

Prices will be $450,000 (€360,000). Only 5 units will be made available in 2011 and 10 units will be assembled and sold in 2012.

If what they say is true then driving one of these will be suicide! Sell them to the Taliban I hear they have a lot of suicidal peeps. On a serious note, I will have to see the actual car put out these actual numbers in order for me to believe it. I'm not saying its not possible, I just need to see it.

Looking through the video said it all, the engines are from nelson racing engines. Here is the brochure for their 2500hp engine ;) http://www.nelsonracingengines.com/pricesheets/lsx/racegas/tt/ws_454lsx_tt.pdf

These claims are probably made just to gain publicity. If they are true then it is the most stupid car to ever be built. Personally I don't think it will ever see European roads and I think it is more ugly than my ex-girlfriend.

I'm very familiar with Nelson Racing engines and what they are capable of. It's the total package. It's relatively easy to make a car that can hook up and fly in the quarter. But to make that car handle, brake, and have daily driveability to be considered an all around supercar is going to be a challenge. It is a challenge I would love to be a part of to tell you the truth.

Tghis will either need goofily soft, low pressure tires, or the most advanced traction/launch control w/AWD this world has never seen.

483 km/h? Good Luck :)

If you wont say it i will. This has to b a joke! Why should someone pay that much 2 commit suicide? In a straight line you'll b ok but in corners u might as well have the reapep in the passenger seat.

You may be right but it would be interesting to see somebody try. Some of these claims would be just as believable if they had a picture of Fred Flintstones car at the top of the page.

It's looking better, particularly at the back, but it's still the vapourware dream of an optimist with access to SolidWorks and everyone else's imagination. I'll believe in it when it's moving across a road. I'm not holding my breath.

300mph? LOL!!!! please, these people are obviously over ambitious. a car like that, which has touch screens, leather seats, cd player, apulstry, trimmings and all the techno gubbins inside will weight it down so badly, it will never reach that speed.

 Joe_Limon Joe_Limon
At those speeds, downforce from the vehicle's shape puts many times more force at the wheels then the vehicles weight.

I dont even think there's tyres that could resist going 300mph on a road car...then there's the issue of the engine which i highly doubt will last more than a lap around the green hell under such strains...this car should be a drag racer and that's about all i can see in its future.

It's a 572 cubic inch or 9.4liter engine, so at 2000hp... you get 213hp/liter which is pretty close to the Lancer Evolution FQ-400's 203hp/liter.

this car shows the average american IQ and also why they voted for george bush..spastic claims lives strong in the usa! 1.2 second from zero to sixty just because of 2,000+ horsepower? ROFL...although i am quite surprise none of them has mentioned 'veyron' yet... just like how they tried to compared the unltra sophisticated 4wd, double clutch bugatti to a piece of shit crate motored scaffolding and plastic transformer hype look called, thrust ssc.

oh and the dagger apparently has AWARD WINNING ELECTRONIC WIRING SYSTEM, CUSTOM PAINT AND AWARD WINNING INTERIOR BY AFTER FX CUSTOMS,.....best bit it advertized, MULTI FUEL INJECTIONS!! and gearbox by MENDEOLA, good luck operating a clutch rated at 2,000 hp plus ROFL

thrust ssc was a twin jet engine car made to break the world land speed record. If you mean the ssc ultimate aero, tell me where I can buy a piece of shit crate motor that looks like this? http://3.photos.ebizautos.com/used-2007-ultimate_aero-ssc-shelbysupercars-9310-4552374-15-640.jpg also, here is a street legal 2,200 hp car that does 0-60 in even less at 1s. It's not even american, it's British. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtxfbxGz1u4

2200hp, qtr mile in 7.8...the dagger claiming it will do it in 6.7 seconds pfff, right!! and those sure looks like some normal road going tires on that car.

hmmmm... this 2000hp mustang can almost do it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nETE0ww4ZsM&feature=related why can't this 2500hp supercar do it? edit* http://www.hotrodpitstop.com/tools.html#0 according to this drag calculator, 3100lbs and 2000hp should hit 6.7s

i'm surprised that nobody brought up the CONVERTIBLE side of the car... the level of strain on a chassis to handle this kind of figures is mind-blowing, to make it a convertible is simply impossible.
December 7, 2010 1:36 pm
 Joe_Limon Joe_Limon
I would have said yes normally... if this was a front engined car. Since it's mid engined there won't be the massive torque loading through the chassis.
December 7, 2010 3:25 pm
 radmeister radmeister
There will be strain on the chassis no matter where you put the engine. The only way i can see them ever being able to get any of those performance figures is if they had some custom made tires that were like 20" wide. 508s LOL. They couldn't use the soft drag tires and still achieve their top speed, and vice versa unless they had really really wide low profile tires that were custom made. And something that wide would have HUGE axial stresses at high speeds, so i think the tires would be the engineering marvel on this car. 2500hp engines have been around for a long time, traction has always been a problem when trying to use them on a road course. I mean for the 1/4 mile time 6.7 with that kind of power is not a problem if you have the tires, once it grips and goes the front will be off the ground anyways so chassis rigidity wont matter, try that on the ring and see what happens.

If I were to engineer a 2000-2500hp car, I'd have electronic throttle control, at lower speeds from no throttle to flooring it may only change 5-10% throttle and then have the gear that the car is in dictate a throttle multiplier.

It will be interesting to see that 9.3 litre 2500hp twin-turbo unit last more than 1 full speed run, and what will that 3100lbs do to that gearbox? It will also be nice to watch that video when it crashes in the first corner of the Nordschleife and explode in flames (which it will eventually do). IF it is ever made.
