Ford squashes Focus Coupe rumors
Company cites lack of demand
It might be the season of giving, but Ford has quashed rumors about a Focus coupe.
In a post on the Focus' Facebook page, Mark Schirmer - Ford's Communications Manager - commented "Wild speculation about a Focus coupe is making the rounds on websites in Europe. I can tell you right now -- and the coupe lovers hate to hear this -- but there are no plans for this model."
To ensure Ford wasn't playing a sleight of hand, Automobile called Schirmer to confirm his statements also included a three-door hatch. His answer: "There are no plans for any coupe or three-door hatch or whatever you want to call it." Furthermore, Schirmer indicated Ford axed the three-door hatch over lack of consumer demand.

C'mon Ford, make another coupe! My father has a Cougar V6 and it is ace. If Ford made another coupe, it'll probably have a smaller engine to fit in with the Euro V rules though.

Yeah, cos the Vauxhall Astra Sporthatch suffers from a lack of demand... The reason the previous Focus 3dr didn't sell was because it was as bland as you can get. I still have a Mk1 ST170 and it is sooooooo much better looking than the mkII. The MkI looks best in 3dr form, the MkII in 5dr form. All Ford ever attempted with the MkII 3dr was to take reduce the number of doors, they didn't attempt to make it look in any way sleek or sporty, even the ST looks better in 5dr form. Own Goal, the VXR will own this.

But no comment about other coupe models on here... such as calling it a Capri.

I'd love to see a Ford coupe, but not a focus. Build it on a new generation RWD/IRS platform. There is room for the Mustang and for one that is more upright, less pony car in nature (Think BMW at a lower price).

Great idea.
Problem is Ford in Europe don't have a RWD platform. (other than Transit vans) - spose they could use one of Mazdas, either the MX-5 or RX-8 but with a conventional engine.

Of course they say the Ford Focus Coupe is not being build. It has to be a Ford Capri. Hopefully it will have some retro appearance, such as round head lights that are a slightly covered by the hood and the laminated back window. Perhaps they also can use the 3.5 Ecoboost engine from the Taurus SHO. Clean but with enough horsies. Therefore I am glad it won't be a Focus Coupe. This won't bring back the good old days of Capri, Manta and Sirocco (although I don't lik the new one) times and the 'battles' between these model lovers.

Wow. As Ford announces that there will be no 3-door Focus, I was sure there will be a coup?. Now Ford says there will be no Focus-coup? and I?m sure the new Ford-coup? will be named Capri. That a coup? is on the plan for the next years I know from a secure source. No panic, everything will be good. ;-)
