A 630 horsepower V8...skateboard? [video]

V8-powered skateboard will debut at the V8 Supercars event in Sydney, Australia

Here's a video of, well, basically a V8 engine bolted to a large skateboard.

The 630 bhp (470 kW) V8 engine is attached to what looks like a snowboard on karting wheels in the video. It is called simply Tony Hawk's V8 skateboard. Watch and learn.

This is the work of Tony Hawk and this project will be shown at the upcoming V8 Supercars race in Sydney, Australia which takes place December 3rd to the 5th. Hawk is a professional skateboarder who has his own video game series.

It's also funny to see the test rider/driver Joel identified as the 'human crash test dummy' in the video and talking about how his wife isn't too crazy about the idea. Really?

If they pull this off, then good for them. But I see it as a failed experiment. Those tiny wheels can't put down 630hp. Wide open, those tires will shread.

I mean... lighten up - this was built for a laugh, I'm betting the idea was formed over a pint or 2.....

Totally agreed.... its great i love that its got fair tooo much bhp! thats the point!.... mikemikemikemike.... you could argue that you dont actually use all 500 bhp in a E63 so does that make that pointless too??

Do these people have too much money? I think not, they have too much awesome. Do they have a death wish? Did Buzz Aldrin, Christopher Columbus, or Johnny Knoxville have a death wish.... Maybe the last guy I don't know, but this just looks like fun. Also I don't think they had the idea of the feeling of skateboarding in mind when they came up with this plan. And by plan I mean: creating something that some people with think is cool, some will think is stupid, and not caring what anybody thinks one way or another.

It's ridiculous because it is extreme overkill. You cannot actually use all 630 hp. It would have been better of to be about 20hp, then it may be rideable.

What is your definition of use? I can think of a million uses for 630hp. If these guys want to use it to flip over a skateboard and kill themselves then so be it. As a matter of fact given enough time 630hp in anything could be considered deadly, they are just speeding up the process. I'll consider them "Ahead of the curve."

When I say they can't use it I mena, they will not accelrate at a rate or at an RPM which will use all the 630 horsepower. I also mean that it is grossly impractical.

i skateboard and longboard, and surfboard. and to be honest in my opinion this is the dumbest idea. this is what happens when ppl have too much money. ruins the feeling of actually skateboarding or longboarding. lame! :/
