VW has finally brought its BlueMotion technology to the Passat CC and Scirocco models. BlueMotion is a set of fuel-saving technologies which inlcude a stop/start system and regenerative braking.
BlueMotion will now be featured on all Scirocco diesel variants, including the GT model for the UK. For the 140 PS (103 kW) 2.0 TDI Scirocco fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission, BlueMotion takes fuel-economy down to 4.5 liters/100 km (62.8 mpg imperial) with a corresponding CO2 quotient of 118 g/km. Those numbers, though, are significantly higher with the DSG dual-clutch gearbox.
For the GT, which comes with a 2.0 liter TDI with 170 PS (125 kW), the magic numbers are 5.1 liters/100 km (55.4 mpg imperial) and 134 g/km, still with the 6-speed manual.
The addition of BlueMotion on the Passat CC 2.0 TDI with 140 PS lets that model achieve a fuel-economy rating of 4.7 liters/100 km (60.1 mpg imperial), a huge improvement from the previous 5.6 liters/100 km (50.4 mpg imperial). CO2 emissions also drops to 125 g/km on the model from 146 g/km.
The Passat CC also gets BlueMotion on its 170 PS 2.0 TDI variant with an economy rating of 4.9 liters/100 km (57.6 mpg imperial).
