2012 McLaren MP4 GT3 racer spied on the track

Here are some of the first spy shots available of the McLaren MP4 GT3 - the race version of the MP4-12C supercar.

This high-performance GT3's aim is to recapture some of the racing magic of the classic McLaren F1.

Gone are the front air intakes of the standard MP4, instead comes a mean-looking gaping mouth of an intake on the front bonnet. Also different on this GT3 variant are window vents for the rear windscreen and a lower front bumper. Our spy photographers report that McLaren was also trying out some new large wings on the front bumper during this test run.

Of course, the most glaring novelty is the giant rear wing for better aerodynamic stability.

Power figures we don't have.

The series MP4-12C comes with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine with 447 kW (600 bhp / 608 PS) and 599 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque coupled to a seven-speed "Seamless Shift" double-clutch transmission. 0-100 km/h comes in at less than 3.8 seconds and top speed is over 300 km/h (186 mph).

Prices for the MP4-12C when it goes on sale next year will start at £168,500 (including 20% VAT) in its home market the UK.
