Based on the Accord?

According to a recent report, Honda is developing a new NSX to replace the stillborn model that was axed in 2008.

Details are limited, but Motor Trend is reporting the NSX will ride a modified Accord platform which has been swapped front to rear. This will allow the company to save on development costs, one of the key problems that plagued the cancelled project.

Power is expected to come from a hybridized 3.5-liter V6 engine with upwards of 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS). It will be paired to a manual transmission and a rear-biased SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system.

Production hasn't been green-lighted, but if approved, a launch could come as early as 2014.

This sounds a lot more like an up-sized Prius than a new NSX.

Honda should definitely NOT do this. If they're bringing back the NSX it needs to be 100%, not a "this is what we can afford to do" product but a true Halo car. I can understand them canceling the previous one and even being paranoid about not following Toyota down the "too-much, too-late" LFA road; but not going all-in on the sophomore NSX is a big mistake. As a whole, Honda's been making some questionable decisions of late... And yes, new Integra please!

You're absolutely right. The original was all about R&D, and all the ingenuity and time that went into it.

I totally agree. The original changed the supercar landscape forever. Before it came along supercars were all hard to drive, expensive to maintain, unreliable, temperamental beasts that only real enthusiasts bought. Honda showed you could make gorgeous, fast and exclusive sit alongside something that was as easy to live with day to day as a Civic and had quality on a par if not exceeding mass produced cars. It turned Ferrari, Lamborghini and to some degree Porsche into the companies (and cars) they are today. Basing the new one on the Accord? Pah!

First, Honda needs to drop the NSX acronym; the NSX is dead and always will be until they get serious about creating a car worthy of it's namesake/replacement. With that said, cost has become the biggest compromise here so basing their next 'supercar' on a flipped Accord chassis does make some sense. I'm not sure how flexible the Accord chassis is, but if they can significantly modify it, without the use of carbon or aluminum, it could work, but I still have my doubts.

i really like the design even though i feel honda has stole something from ferrari, like the top of the car...

Once again, several people miss that the picture is just a rendering from an artist not affiliated with the manufacturer.

This is actually an exciting car, BUT, its also an absolute insult to the original NSX! AWD? Hybrid? Ughh... The original concept with the V-10 would have been a perfect successor to the original. A shame...

although sounds great i dont think a half-ass job will do the job right...this car needs to compete directly with the GTR and a modified accord chassis wont do it.

I agree, I can't see an Accord platform being sophisticated enough for a new NSX. Make this the new Acura Integra and/or a new S2000 and give us a true NSX

The world does not need another front-engined V8 Corvette. Either give us a REAL NSX or just stick with the Civics and Jazzes.

Dont to it Honda.... you'll win the award for the most reliable but dull supercar ever! Make a proper NSX or leave it to the companies that are doing it properly.

common, the NSX never had any power or handling. it was slow. everyone liked it because of the long ass it had. and now they've taken it away. either make a proper NSX with a proper long ass or call this the Accord RR

The NSX never had any power, but it wasn't slow. And it handled exceptionally well.

H3LUX, what's your favorite car that has come out in the last 15 years? Whatever it is, the NSX paved the way for all sports cars that it preceded.

There's one thing I don't understand though, is that if they're planning of restarting the development, then why not continue on the axed model, when it's already 95% complete and already going like hell ? I mean wouldn't it be more expensive starting it all over again, with a car that's different to the HSV-010 GT ?? Anyway I'm a huge NSX fan, and I hope that Honda would revive the model as soon as possible !! And I don't care whether it's hybrid or not, everyone would love it as long as the professionals thinks that it handles better than other supercars !!!!

Has anybody else grown tired of the "ports" on the front fender from every car manufacturer. It has run its course and what a fad it has turned into. Every piece of junk driving around Miami has the plastic chrome glued on.

Those ports are over-used for sure. They are all basically copies of the traditional Ventiports used on Buicks since 1949. The original concept actually had flashing lights in each hole that would flash whenever it's corresponding spark plug would fire, that would have looked awesome when you revved up the engine. But in production, originally, the number of holes on each side represented the cost of the model, not the number of cylinders.

When it comes to the building of this car. All can say is Honda/Acura... Shit, or take some Amodium AD and get off the pot already. Enough with this car build it or not just stop jerking us around with it.
