2012 Nissan GT-R pricing announced (US)
2012 Nissan GT-R at LA Auto Show

Starts at $89,950

Nissan has announced the 2012 GT-R will be priced from $89,950 when it goes on sale in United States early next year.

As we have previously reported, the facelifted model features a new front bumper, a revised rear fascia, and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. Inside, the cabin has been outfitted with higher quality materials and carbon fiber trim.

Power is provided by a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine which produces 530 hp (395 kW / 537 PS) and 488 lb-ft (661 Nm) of torque. The company declined to release additional performance specifications, but expect to learn more in the coming months.

Besides the standard GT-R, Nissan announced plans to offer a $95,100 Black Edition. Details are limited, but it features unique six-spoke wheels and a special red / black interior with Recaro seats and a dark headliner.

According to Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager of Nissan North America, "The Nissan GT-R continues to be a multi-dimensional performance machine that lives up to the concept of the ultimate supercar that can be driven by anyone, anytime, anywhere. With the enhancements for 2012, including its 530-horsepower twin turbo V6 and revised styling, the GT-R legend continues to grow."

2012 Nissan GT-R Features More Horsepower, New "Black Edition," Revised Fascias and Carbon Fiber Interior Trim

- Nissan's Multi-Dimensional 530-Horsepower Supercar Makes North American Debut at Los Angeles Auto Show, Set to Go On Sale in Early 2011 -

Entering its fourth year of availability in the North American market, the 2012 Nissan GT-R has a new look, new colors, new wheel design and, most important to fans of pure power, more horsepower under the hood. In addition, a new "Black Edition"- with unique seats, interior colors and wheels - joins the GT-R Premium model. The latest iteration of Nissan's legendary supercar makes its North American debut that the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show and will be available at official "GT-R certified" Nissan dealers across the United States in early 2011.

The 2012 Nissan GT-R's advanced VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 now produces 530 horsepower (versus the previous 485 horsepower) and 488 lb-ft of torque (versus the previous 434 lb-ft) - a result of modifying the boost pressure of the turbocharger, valve timing and air mixture ratio, and through reducing intake air resistance by enlarging the inlet pipe diameter. In addition, exhaust air resistance was reduced through use of an enlarged section of exhaust pipe.

GT-R's already impressive aerodynamics have been improved for 2012 with downforce increased by about 10% and the coefficient of drag reduced to 0.26 (from 0.27). Stability is improved by enlarged fascia and grille openings, which also help reduce air resistance inside the engine compartment. The volume of air that passes through the radiator and cools the front brakes is also increased.

The newly refreshed front fascia features aggressive double rectifier fins and new integrated high intensity LED running lights. Additional plated parts are used for the headlight inner panels, enhancing the car's strong visual presence.

The redesigned rear fascia features a lower center of gravity than the previous design, created by using a sculpted lower section and extended length. Underfloor cooling performance is also enhanced and air resistance reduced by extending the rear diffuser.

In addition, cooling performance for the muffler is improved and rear downforce is increased by about 10% through use of a new rear fascia outlet and new vents on the lower rear fenders that help remove air from the rear wheel wells. Newly designed larger diameter tailpipe finishers are also adopted. Six exterior colors are available, including two new colors: Deep Blue Pearl and Jet Black. Other available colors are Solid Red, Gun Metallic, Pearl White and a limited production 4-stage metallic Super Silver.

GT-R's newly designed, lighter weight and more rigid forged aluminum 20-inch wheels, once again manufactured by RAYS®, help improve suspension response. Knurling inside the wheels is modified to help keep the tires from slipping around the wheels under heavy acceleration or braking. The wheels also feature a new premium dark (near black) finish, which provides a high quality, high-performance look. The Black Edition features special black six-spoke RAYS® lightweight wheels in place of the Premium model's 10-spoke design.

Inside, the revisions for 2012 include new carbon fiber trim and upgraded materials. The Black Edition adds custom red-trimmed Recaro® seats, red and black interior trim and a dark headliner.

"The Nissan GT-R continues to be a multi-dimensional performance machine that lives up to the concept of ‘the ultimate supercar that can be driven by anyone, anytime, anywhere,'" said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. "With the enhancements for 2012, including its 530-horsepower twin turbo V6 and revised styling, the GT-R legend continues to grow. We can't wait for its arrival in Nissan showrooms, and on the streets, here in the U.S."

Additional information on the 2012 Nissan GT-R, including on-sale date, will be available in the coming months.

wasnt the base price of a new gt-r around 79k when it first came out. i hate how manufacturers stand behind facelifts to justify jumps in pricing.

It's not only a facelift, it has an extra 50 bhp

It's still only a facelift. Not saying it's not worth the money but is it really worth $10k more than the same car out 2.5 years ago.

Nissan would tell you that it's still a lot cheaper than comparable cars. Also, it's got a revised front end that's a lot stiffer, a gearbox that won't disintegrate, 530bhp, uprated suspension and other revisions here and there. I'd say developing and integrating those is probably worth 10k or so. Also to blame is a stronger Yen then last time out and Nissan getting parts in from overseas (although that may have been true last time too).

they have improves the electronics...it now has a carbon fiber front brazing...the engine produces more power but consumes less fuel on an average and is cleaner. nissan has always stood by what it said sicne the start, the 1st generation gt-r would not be the complete version because time was running out...this one..is the real deal..

Because they can. Nissan finally have a car not only to worry, but to compete head-on with the legendary 911 Turbo. Milk it! Milk it!

its still a bargain even at its new price considering it will blow 95% of its competition out the water

I spent around 3 hours driving it. My cousin lucky SOB has one and we took it to a track. I have to say the car is crazy fast and so quick in corners it's almost impossible to get it loose. However there is one thing I don't like and it's the fact that the car has no soul. Don't get me wrong but driving M3 was more fun and you feel more connected the the gt-r. You take the gt-r into a fast corner almost pissing in your pants but then somehow the car takes over and you come out amazed and confused asking yourself what did just happened. With m3 you work the corner and that's the fun part. Amazing car however to bad my cousin won't let me drive it more often.

soul? go buy an old ferrari if you want to talk soul..

how do you define soul in a car? does this include expensive maintenance or driving around the track that you need to be aggressive on the steering wheel? GT-R prove only one thing that we could actually have a car that is cheap with less maintenance and easy to drive around the track that even amateur drivers will feel like pros.

Of course it`s still a bargain, but it would be even more of a bargain at 10K less. Boy that price is really going to be helpful at a economy that is on the verge of total collapse.

Funny how the ACTUAL potential (you know, the ones with money to spend on a car like this) owners don't complain about the purchase price, but do complain about the ridiculous running, servicing and maintenance costs when compared to a similarly priced 911.

A similarly priced 911 would be a regular Carrera with a few option boxes ticked, & considering the performance advantage, you would expect the GT-R to cost more to run. (I own a 993 C4S, & I can tell you it ain't cheap to run either) A more useful statistic would've been a comparison between another car with similar performance, not a similar price tag. Also, nobody I know with a GT-R (my brother included) has ever complained about maintenance costs: if you've ever run a high performance car before, you'd know that servicing cars with a lot of purpose built, go-fast hardware is typically more expensive to run than your sports coupe or family sedan. Technicians have to be well trained in order to have a clue on how to crack the various systems open (& more technical designs/construction typically means specialty tools & more labor costs right off the bat). Parts aren't your usual run of the mill bits you'd find in the corporate parts bin & even fluids/filters/brake pads & such are usually specially designed/formulated for these particular cars. You have to pay to play this hard.

well said Jamaican, the price tag belies the nature of the GT-R or any other car of the type. High quality car = high quality labor.

The reason for the price jump is cause what ive always said. Nissan was losing money or making no profit on each GT-R.

I love the GT-R. I love 911s but ironically Porsche sells things things for more when they start taking things off. lol....I would love to own a GT-R, it is a $200,000 car at half the price. They can not be making any money on this car.

It's a nice car...the numbers and performance figures are astonishing for the price you pay for it... BUT...one of my clients (is a real car freak and does club racing) owns both a 997 C4 and a GTR...the Porsche happens to get more time on the road than the GTR...his quote..."The GTR is nice...but it's rather dull..." For those with money to burn on cars like these I think the way it feels is rather important as well. For those of us with a more real world pay check...the GTR is the sh!t...supercar performance for E-Class pricing!!!

Other than the extra HP, the USD/JPY exchange rate also went up quite a bit compared to 2 years ago.

It's still a bargain... probably even more so now. It wasn't just a minor refresh: more power, torque, wider powerband, lower emissions, better economy. MT chatted with Mizuno, who said the improvements are due to "changes to turbo boost pressure, valve timing, and air mixture ratio, reducing intake air resistance by enlarging the inlet pipe diameter and reducing exhaust air resistance through use of an enlarged section of exhaust pipe." On the handling front: "...a stronger body, including a carbon composite strut brace. A front suspension geometry change seeks better turning grip and straight-line stability, while a rear roll center adjustment is designed to improve tire grip and feedback. The GT-R also swaps to a lower friction shock absorber and a thinner front brake rotor that is 10 mm larger (390 mm) than its predecessor..." as well as lighter and more rigid 20-inch RAYS alloy wheels and new construction Dunlop run-flat tires. Interior improvements: "...a newly shaped and stitched instrument panel and navigation system finisher, a carbon-center cluster finish, and matte black switches. Seats have also been reshaped for increased support and comfort." Definitely worth the price bump, IMO.

Still a bargain as this car will bet pretty much anything. Remember the Datsun 240z (now Nissan), it was a game changer then for the price as it continues today
