Italian specialty marque issues a statement saying AMG engine for the upcoming C9 supercar won't be the same V12 as in SL65 Black Series

Italian specialty marque Pagani has issued a brief statement regarding engine sourcing on its upcoming C9 supercar.

In order to quell (or instigate) speculation about the AMG-sourced engine for the C9 the company said this:

"Due to recent articles posted in the press about the future Pagani C9, Pagani Automobili and Mercedes-AMG GmbH would like to make the following statement.

The engine of the Pagani C9 is not a derivative of the AMG V12 engine developed for the SL65 Black Series, nor is the AMG V12 engine in the SL65 Black Series derived from the engine AMG is currently developing for the Pagani C9.

The cars are very different in their character and conception and the engine will reflect this in its technical characteristics and behavior.

The engine in the Pagani C9 has been developed specifically for that application by Mercedes-AMG GmbH."

Now, all that really says is that the engine will come from AMG but won't be the V12 from the SL65 Black Series nor any variant or derivate of it.

We've previously reported that the Pagani C9 would come with a bespoke 6.0 liter V12 AMG engine with around 700 PS (515 kW) and 1000 Nm of torque. And that is likely close to what the end result will be.

I think it might be the 6.3 AMG unit from the SLS...perhaps with 2 turbos bolted on...

Now this is interesting. You definitely do know how to write. So how come you don't know how to read? The article quite clearly states that the engine will not be a derivative of anything made by AMG, but it will be specifically designed for the C9. What part of that didn't you understand?

@ Shawnex; "No gay turbo's or Superchargers" So natural aspiration is the heterosexual method of induction? Wow thats the first time ive ever heard anything that stupid. No disrespect but thats not smart, Natural Aspiration may be your bag and thats cool, but there are obvious benefits from the other two methods of Forced Induction.

@ autificianado Please do read the article before making statements about it. It clearly says it will have a 6.0 V12 from AMG and not a V8. And it also clearly says that the engine they will use hasnt been used in any Merc. OK?

If it's a 6.0 litre unit and it makes 1000nm of torque, we are looking at turbos. Is that really likely? I hope not!

definitely turbo. more power, more efficient, but it won't sound as good as the old 7.3l NA V12.

WCF, what's with the poor yoda english in this article? you don't have to mention or quote three times on the AMG V12 engine or SL 65 Black.

Please define yoda English? Really dont understand what you're talking about. The press statement was so short Alex included it verbatim in the article - the four paragraphs surrounded by quotes.

Yes found me you have Errmmm understand you yoda has The throat i must clear Destroy the sith we must A wrong turn you have made There is a couple of repetition or sentences have similar meaning to the other that could cause confusion. This is what you wrote: Due to recent articles posted in the press about the future Pagani C9, Pagani Automobili and Mercedes-AMG GmbH would like to make the following statement: 1. The engine of the Pagani C9 is not a derivative of the AMG V12 engine developed for the SL65 Black Series 2. The AMG V12 engine in the SL65 Black Series derived from the engine AMG is currently developing for the Pagani C9. 3. The engine in the Pagani C9 has been developed specifically for that application by Mercedes-AMG GmbH. Sounds like a cut and paste job from both of the press release from Pagani Automobili and AMG GmbH. What you should have written is, the Pagani C9 has a different AMG V12 than the SL 65 AMG Black Series. What I mean by Yoda English is, he is very annoying when he speaks where he tend to rearrange the whole sentence or repeat the same thing all over again. 1. Yes found me you have 2. Errmmm understand you yoda has 3. The throat i must clear 4. Destroy the sith we must Back to the Pagani C9, I think it is going to be a great successor to the evergreen C8. I am not sure whether the AMG built V12 will be turbocharged? But my heart says it might stick to a highly stressed naturally aspirated V12. Lamborghini?s new V12 could achieve a similar figure (only slower) with naturally aspirated. But more importantly, this is a clear sign that a large naturally aspirated V12 engine still lives on!

We did not write that. As I already mentioned, the four paragraphs in quotes (your 3 points) is the actual press release word-for-word. If you have a problem with the way Pagani writes press releases I suggest you contact them and give them a writing lesson and I'm sure they'll tell you to go spit into the wind. :)

Thanks for clearing that out Brian and keep up the good work =D I guess 700bhp is the new benchmark for mid engine Hypercars bar the Veyron. The Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren might probably think.. Hmm must have at least 750bhp. Mind you, you could get 550bhp in an M5!

One didn't copy the other, and the other didn't copy the one. This line of thinking makes sense to anyone who read the article carefully. What is up with the critics today? If there is one thing to criticize, how about the fact that news in this site appears several news cycles later than making it onto most of hoy-polloy automotive forums?

Whatever the engine configuration, this is a company in which to be in awe. They are about the only of the many, many attempts over the last decade or so to succeed at building a new super car company. For them to be able to have an exclusive engine built by AMG is pretty impressive. I'm pretty sure that I recently found the best stretch of asphalt in North America. Heaven would be to drive this car and a Ducati on it, back to back.

Is anyone surprised they would go to AMG? I would have been caught off guard if they won't with anyone but AMG. i could see them one day developing/casting their own engine though.

Sounds like they choose status over performance with the V12 over a same size but lighter and less expensive V8 TT.
