Aston Martin Cygnet unveiled at Harrods department store
Aston Martin Cygnet debut Harrod's 16.11.2010

Cygnet will go into production in 2011 but is already available for order at Aston Martin dealers in Europe now

Aston Martin is debuting the Cygnet city car at the famed Harrods department store in central London.

The Cygnet is Aston Martin's bold venture into the minicar segment, without so much as an attempt at a compact sedan, let alone an A3-rivaling hatch. The Cygnet will go into production next year (2011), at Aston Martin's Gaydon headquarters in Warwickshire, U.K., in order to help lower the luxury automaker's CO2 numbers.

Powering the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet will be a 1.33 liter gasoline/petrol engine with 97 bhp (72 kW / 98 PS) and 91 lb-ft (123 Nm) of torque. Aston Martin is aiming for a 55 mpg (UK) mileage rating in its home market with a CO2 quotient of just 120 g/km.

The luxury city car will remain on display at Harrods until December 11.

European Aston Martin dealers have already begun taking orders on the Cygnet.

great car for a busy city (I mean the Toyota not this one)... I can even imagine a salesman presenting this AM, ah, sorry, Toyota: and this extraordinary AM can be yours for just 59.999 euros. Stupid

and BTW, another thought... if they are selling this re-badged Toyota just in order to help lower the luxury automaker's CO2 numbers, that means that Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls Royce are going to introduce small cars in their offer? Probably these cars will be a Lamborghini Sandero, Bentley Logan, Rolls Royce Fabia, Ferrari Nano, etc. Wow, I'm awake now... that was just a nightmare... hopefully.

"... if they are selling this re-badged Toyota just in order to help lower the luxury automaker's CO2 numbers, that means that Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls Royce are going to introduce small cars...." No they won't because they don't need to! Ferrari (Fiat), Lamborghini (VW), Bentley (VW), and Rolls Royce (BMW), are part of a group that sell small cars i.e. low CO2, While Aston Martin is independent! Therefore, AM have to reduce their emissions and increase their CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy). Other makers such as Pagani, don't need to either because they don't produce many vehicles.

good point, car fan... but following this logic AM should not be worried about the CO2 emissions as being part of TATA which produces only small cars...

freeway: AM is not affiliated with, nor a part of Tata. I believe you've mistaken AM with Jaguar, as Jaguar and Land Rover are a part of Tata.

I only will be happy if I get it free (including any option in which shouldn't be many as it is a Toyota) for any purchase of AM cars, but get different set of colour and interior material and theme for different purchase for vantage, DB9, DBS and Rapide. Otherwise, it is an absolute no brainier to purchase Cygnet except AM does give it a electric motor 0-100kmh in less than 7s.

I felt the same way, but look at it from this perspective. They either produce this car to meet emissions targets, or become part of Mercedes (they were talking about a share swap a few months ago and are back in talks, so cars like this won't be needed and they could make use of shared engines and larger orders on parts for discount purposes).

If they have to do this to keep building one77s, then go ahead and god bless them for not diluting their proper lineup.
