U.S. EPA declares Bugatti Veyron worst mileage offender
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport 05.07.2010

Bugatti Veyron gets just 8 mpg (29.4 liters/100 km) in city driving on the American cycle according the the EPA

It's no surprise that the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) of the United States has ruled the 2011 Toyota Prius the most fuel-efficient car around. It comes in at a mileage rating of 51 mpg (4.6 liters/100 km) in city driving and 48 mpg (4.9 liters/100 km) on the highway on the American cycle.

But the EPA has declared the 2011 Bugatti Veyron the worst mileage offender in the United States market, with a mileage rating of only 8 mpg (29.4 liters/100 km) in city driving. The Veyron doesn't fare much better on the highway, with an EPA rating there of 15 mpg (15.5 liters/100 km).

Some of the top vehicles on the EPA list included the Ford Fusion Hybrid which delivered 41 mpg city (5.74 liters/100 km) and 36 mpg (6.53 liters/100 km) highway but it was the Japanese brands Toyota and Honda which dominated the top 10.

But the Veyron was in distinguished company at the bottom of the list, one that includes the Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG, the Bentley Continental GTC and Continental Flying Spur, and the Rolls-Royce Phantom/Phantom Coupe/Drophead Coupe - all of which delivered a city rating of 11 mpg (21.4 liters/100 km).

Of course, none of those are the fastest car in the world.

Stunning car! I thought it was more than "just" 30 litres/100km. I mean 1001hp...

I really am not a fan of the Veyron....but lets all be clear, F*** the EPA and all their bull****, still trying to blame us driver's for the environmental problems.

no one's blaming no one...but i certainly want to blame someone when there's too much lead or arsenic in my water or when I can't regularly eat fish because of possible mercury poisoning!! anyways...big surprise here uuuhh

lol, here I thought the ssc would have been worse... then again, it's not awd. and it doesn't weigh two tons

The EPA didn't even bother to test the SCC Joe, sorry.

I bet there's a test to get into the EPA. and the requirement is to not be a car entisiast. You want a car to be economic, then let it be a city or family car, leave the supercars alone. They aren't even produced in masses so they don't do NEARLY as much damage as all the normal class cars in the world

shows how bad the economy of most US cars is that the most economical car for sale there achieves 51 mpg, and a saloon that achieves 41 mpg is considered eco friendly... come on, in europe its not unusually eco friendly until it hits high 60s or 70 mpg

European cars are measured on a different scale. If you don't believe me compare the american mileage to european mileage of vehicles sold on both sides of the puddle.

I'm from Europe too. Show me a car that achieve 70MPG (American gallon not English-3,36l/100km) in REALITY, not VW's dreams on empty German highway... As my pal from US said, measurements are different. Prius in Europe also has on badge something under 4l/100km, but it's only laboratory's result... All cars should have EPA sticker-just for curiosity, no need to be offended...

And Bugatti's response would be, "Go f**k yourself EPA! Why don't you go to bed with a tree!" This is quite possibly the least effective smear campaign in history. I saw a fly-by of one of these in the Hamptons at the end of the summer in between (what else) two other "lesser" Veyrons. Quite a sight.

The EPA has good intentions but they gotta stop ripping on the cars.

ouch, but think about it, a pruis has what, 4 cylinders, a veyron as 4 turbochargers and 16 cylinders. so obviously it will drink a shit load of gas more than the pruis. eitherway would rather have a v10 or better than a pruis.

I'm sure if you can afford the 1.7 million bucks to buy one, you could care less about the mpgs!

EPA staff probably demands Bugatti sending them a sample for re-testing.

there's no denying the Veyron's dismal gas-guzzling characteristic . sure it can go ballistic...but the question is...HOW FAR?

As far as the nearest and most popular golf club, the most exclusive pub, celebrity chef restaurant and perhaps laundry for your suit. You won't take Veyron to pick up your children or go for weekly groceries, will you?

EPA please don't compare a prius to a Veyron since that is a supercar while the other is a boring hybrid car. Supercars are meant to drive at high speed & later look out for fuel gauge if u run out of fuel.

Really?! A quad-turbo 8.0 litre W16 engine ISN'T very environmentally friendly? My beliefs!! They lie shattered on the floor!!!! ?_? Who cares? They only get driven on a cloudless Sunday anyway. It'll have enough fuel to reach and sustain top speed for a while and slow down again, perhaps with enough to then limp to the nearest filling station. Besides, who wouldn't want to be seen pumping more Super Unleaded into their very own Bugatti Veyron?

Considering locomotives typically have 16 cylinders as well, it seems ultra efficient.
