990 kg Belgian supercar gets 4.2 liter V8 Maserati power plant with 420 PS

This is the 2011 Gillet Vertigo .5 Spirit - a supercar by Belgian specialty marque Automobiles Gillet.

Now, we don't editorialize here at WCF, so it's up to you as to whether this car can compete looks-wise. But some may argue that interior dash needs a little more design work.

Here are the facts:

The car now comes with a Maserati-sourced 4.2 liter V8 engine configured to 420 PS (309 kW), as opposed to the previous V6 supplied by Alfa Romeo. Automobiles Gillet offers a power upgrading for those who think that's not enough.

The engine is coupled to 6-speed sequential gearbox.

The chassis is made of a nomex/carbon monoshell which helps keep the weight down to 990 kg.

Front and rear suspension each feature 2 superimposed wishbones with independent wheels at the back.

The Gillet Vertigo .5 Spirit rides on 19-inch wheels wrapped in 225/35Z/R19 tires for the front and 275/35Z/R19 at the rear.

It bears a strong resemblance to the previous one (the existence of which I a only aware of thanks to Gran Turismo 3), so it still looks... odd. It should be quick with over 420bhp/tonne, though.

Mikeado, me too man. GT3/4 made me fall in love with it. In GT4 it was so insanely faced although that was a seemingly unlimited spec engine. I spent so many hours trying to make it competitive but being so light its downforce was lacking. sorry good memories. Im glad they brought her back, it does still look like a Vertigo which i think is a very good thing as looks wise, there's only one Gillet(insert pun here). They did make some nice subtle changes, i liked the Romeo V6 alot, but this 4.2 should give it a bit more punch which should help.

Props to spending time on GT3/4 to tuning your vehicles. I'm an XBox man myself, so I'm on Forza Motorsport 3, but buying a car and tuning it from the ground up myself to make it race-spec is my absolute favorite part about any racing game, especially with the less popular cars such is this (Gillet was never in Forza as far as I recall, but I done numerous projects with TVRs, Weismanns, and the like). On the car: well it definitely looks unique (aside from the previous model). Kind of cool, though, and I'm a fan of the Maserati engine (for the sound, of course) and it will be very fast. But, as usual, will it handle?

Forza is a blast especially with the degree of cars and customization it offers. Just think some of the driving dynamics of the game are over-exaggerated.

I love GT Dbebhemoras , but at one time i also had an Xbox 1 so i also had Forza 2, it was a solid game and nothing to sneer at. The Gillette was in but you only got the race car in either game, so you could only do limited things like change settings them selves. I still spent hours trying to get the thing to handle so much power with so little weight(in GT4 it had an unreal 900hp with very weak downforce) still great times. Working on project cars in either game, is indescribably goodtimes, especially making factory cars into race versions...you used to work on TVRs, good man ;).

TVRs are a lot of fun to play with because they have so much potential. I'm working on a Sagaris right now which is quite the challenge. As it is in the game, the Sagaris is one of the easiest cars to powerslide, but trying to get it to grip like a racer is no easy feat. My best work was on the 911 GT1 Strassenversion which, to my spec, outgrips almost every other car in the game that I tested. I've also worked with the 458, the M3, the ZR-1 (that one was also a difficult one, but it's brilliant now), and tons of others. But right now my main project is the Sagaris, I can't wait to finish it.

Love the porportions and there's something about it, something that the SLS wished that it looked more like its Gullwing SL forebear. Coupled with that growling Italian V8, wow. Maybe they could work out with the details, like the headlamps, tail lamps and the interior to give amore polished serious production look.

it's a very nice car, but i'd like to see it with a LS7 or an AMG 6.2l, that would be brutal.

A 4.2 litre capacity (V8 or not) sounds rather limp-wristed for a brutal looking car of this magnitude. How about a 6litre or 7litre V12? Too spicy for ya?! The Gilet Vertigo has that unfinished look around the headlights; needs smoothing out around the edges to be taken seriously. Bespoke interior. Shame about practicality!
