Gran Turismo 5 gets a release date [video]
Better late than never
After countless delays, it appears Gran Turismo 5 will be released at midnight on New Year's Day.
While nothing is official, several retailers have updated their sites to indicate the long overdue game will hit store shelves shortly after Christmas. This jives with previous statements which said Gran Turismo 5 "will be coming this holiday season."
Priced from $59.99 in the U.S., the PlayStation 3 game features over 1,000 cars and a "wealth of real and fictional road, rally, NASCAR, drift and kart courses." If that isn't special enough, a $99.99 Collector's Edition includes a 1:43 scale diecast car, a GT-branded key chain, a voucher for five (5) DLC cars, and a 300-page guide of racing techniques.
Thanks for the tip Eric!

I won't be getting the Collectors edition but i cant wait for this game. I don't buy too many games but i own all Gran Turismo so aside from being the best racing experience/sim can get, wheel or not this is gonna be the crown on the collection(none collectors edition too).

There is also a version that gives you a chance to win a real Mercedes SLS AMG. It contains a voucher to enter an academy. This is however only sold in Australia, New Zealand and Europe (except for The Netherlands).

Although I have been a GT fan, this became really, really annoying. I don't beleive these guys anymore, I can't recall how many times this thing was delayed. They should have some respect to the customers and do not lie about the release date anymore. Stop b.shitting about it and release the thing.

SLS on the cover...dislike...the game i hope is as epic as it should be given the time it took to develop.

I believe sony meant this to be delayed so they could earn more in the holiday season. Not because it has some problems in the game I guess. Yeah but I'm gonna buy one for sure! The No. 1 racing game for me! And Specially I love cars!

I don't think so. Sony is a huge money-making corporation. If they wanted sales, they would have released versions far more frequently, like Microsoft did (in no way is that intended to bring down Forza 3, which is the best racing game that has ever been released to this day). Gran Turismo is Sony's Halo, Mass Effect, Call of Duty, and Fallout rolled into one, and possibly the most prestigious name in the gaming industry. The developers know this, and want to make sure the next entry lives up to its name. That's why they took their sweet time with it. Well I really hope so, anyway.

I think i'm going to delay my purchase too. That's what they deserve..

Gosh, that title made me gasp. I thought there was an exact date confirmed. If it comes out this year, I'm happy.
November 8, 2010 10:05 am
Unbelievable graphics. I've waiting for this to come out ever since GT5 Prologue.

I'm kind of glad Forza 3 came out over a year ago now. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, but am now ready for a new racing experience this holiday season. Time to invest in a ps3!

GT5 will be way over Forza 3, Melong666. This being said, I don't know if this huge delay and development time (6 years..!) is justified. Forza is not hugely inferior to GT and still, they got 3 games released within 6 years!
Edit: I don't think this release date is more pertinent than others. If you want precise info on a game's release date, check dedicated websites. I certainly hope they get it out at the beginning of December (that would also be the logical thing, if they want to sell some copies for the holidays) - also, the game's production process has already started and there are even some "spyshots" of the game's disc and box on the web... soon.. soon!

According to Jalopnik, who asked directly, Kazunori Yamauchi (father of GT) said at SEMA "The discs are being stamped now". Thus, it is out of Polyphony Digital's hands now. Thus, it CANNOT be delayed further. The game's being made and shipped, it will come out some time in December, but as you said, no official date.
It's the home stretch, it's not long now until we can finally have Gran Turismo 5 in our hands. It's out-run Duke Nukem!!
November 8, 2010 1:35 pm
Kazunori Yamauchi has lied to us before, and I'm sure he will again. Until I actually see a disc, I'm not holding my breath.

They originally said it was delayed due to some PSN Update 3.50 thats coming or has come, im up to date system wise but i lost track of numbers. Not sure if thats the truth.
Forza has released more sequels in GT5s development time but even if you're a Forza fan, you have to be objective GT5 will offer way more especially since Kaz showed up to Turn 1s(i think thats them) E3 booth to see whats up. Now i expect a new Forza won't be too far off and way before GT6 which they're already pulling ideas for but Forza 4 will still likely try to be catching up to GT5 despite being released afterwards.

The fair comparison will be GT5 between Forza 4, not Forza 3, as GT5 has been in development since before Forza 3 was even announced. And yes, Forza 4 is coming in Fall 2011, barring any delays, as they already have alpha versions of the game in house to develop it with Kinect capability. I'm an avid Forza 3 fan myself, but there isn't a doubt in my mind that GT5 will blow it out of the water. With the amount of time that they spent on it, it better obliterate Forza 3. Anything less, and I will be greatly disappointed. Forza fans don't worry, as Turn 10 is planning something big for the next release (and no, it isn't just Kinect).
November 8, 2010 6:52 pm
you're right, i overstated it a bit, Forza 4 should be something. Regardless how it compares to GT5 or whatever new...it will be a great racing game, especially if they push the envelope.
One thing i loved about Forza 2 was its take on the Manhattan circuit and some of its custom tracks like Maple Valley. Great quality.
November 8, 2010 7:19 pm
I'm sure it will have features ripped from
Forza 3! Maybe GT5 will be half as good as the new hot pursuit..
November 8, 2010 9:25 pm
You can rip on GT5's release date as much as you want and you would be right. This game has been announced and postponed too many times.
This being said, again, technically and visually, GT5 will be way over Forza. And that's normal considering the development time, experience PD have, etc. And yes, it will have some ripped features (not only from Forza), but these things (such as drift trials, damage modeling, etc.) are made mostly for the american market's appeal (and in order to grab the attention of casual gamers). For real series fans, they are mere unimportant add-ons. What matters in GT is how the cars look, drive and feel. And at that, GT has the upper hand over any other present game.

"For real series fans, they are mere unimportant add-ons"
lol Gran Turismo fans have been asking for damage from the very start and and have been asking it more and more demandingly with ever new generation of gt. I hope Gran Turismo 5 can hold the spot light for longer than a year, if it can then I will have felt very good about my ps3 purchase.
November 9, 2010 12:35 pm
I don't believe the december 31st 2010 release date. Stores in canada often use that date when they want you to pre-order but don't have a final release date. I think it will come out early-mid 2011.
November 9, 2010 10:33 am
All the secrecy and lies totally piss me off but as a guy who has been onboard since GT2 I will buy GT5 when It comes out.
