2012 VW Up! / Lupo scheduled for Frankfurt debut - report
Will spawn a family of small cars
We're starting to learn new details about the 2012 Volkswagen Up! / Lupo as a recent report says the vehicle will be introduced at next year's Frankfurt Motor Show.
Drawing inspiration from the concept, which debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, the production model will be a three-door hatchback with seating for four. If that sounds a little too small, the Lupo will eventually spawn a sedan, five-door hatchback and MPV.
Power will likely be a provided by a variety of three-cylinder engines including a 1.0-liter petrol, a 1.2-liter TSI with 86 PS (84 hp / 63kW), and a 1.2-liter diesel with 75 PS (74 hp / 55 kW). As previewed by the e-Up! concept, an electric-only version will also be available.
The three-door Lupo is expected to hit European showrooms in late 2011 with a base price of approximately €10,000. The e-Lupo will follow a year later, but pricing remains unknown.
