Subaru concept teased for L.A. Auto Show 2010

Subaru concept teased for L.A. Auto Show 2010
Subaru Los Angeles Auto Show concept car teaser image 02.11.2010

Subaru has announced a new concept car will be revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month.  The concept will be the first vehicle to embody a new brand philosophy called "Confidence in Motion".

With this new philosophy, Subaru wants to focus on more continuous product development and bring more products to market while anticipating customer needs faster and being more proactive with environmental issues.  Subaru also underlies the statement with a focus on engineering excellence for a higher level of innovation.

Although it's not clear what tangible attributes will come from this new attitude, it does sound like Subaru may be catching up with the times and concentrating more on hybrid, battery electric and possibly alternative fuel powertrains.  Ultimately, Subaru is trying to improve the brand's image and taking this environmentally friendly approach certainly can't hurt.

Subaru has given no further details about the L.A. concept.  We can only guess by the teaser photo that it's a preview of the next generation Impreza, which is due in 2012, and it could possibily be packing hybrid/electric powertrain technology from Toyota.

FHI Establishes New Brand Statement: "Confidence in Motion"

To Showcase a Concept Car Embodying the Brand Statement at the LA Auto Show -

Tokyo, November 2, 2010 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, announced today the establishment of a new global brand statement, "Confidence in Motion", as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the Subaru brand.

"Confidence" reflects Subaru's attitude toward engineering excellence and the trust generated among drivers by following through on its commitment to provide both enjoyment and peace of mind. "in Motion" expresses Subaru's resolve to continue innovating to meet customer expectations in a world of constant change.

Subaru will proactively address global environmental issues and the demands of ever-maturing automobile use. Subaru believes automobiles should be more than just a means of simple transportations. They should also be a source of enjoyment, and enjoyment rests on a foundation of peace of mind. These two inseparable values are central to the Subaru experience. As customer expectations are diversifying, Subaru will foresee these needs with independent thinking and continue to offer enjoyment and peace of mind without losing sight of the essence of what an automobile should be.

"Confidence in Motion" expresses Subaru's aim to continue evolving in order to offer even more customers new ways to enrich their lives through a uniquely satisfying Subaru experience.

From now on, "Confidence in Motion" will be at the center of all Subaru activities. As the first step, FHI will exhibit a concept car embodying the new brand statement at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show in Los Angeles, California, USA (press days on November 17 and 18, open to the public from November 19 to 28). A press briefing with FHI President & CEO Ikuo Mori is scheduled for Wednesday, November 17 at 12:20 (PST) at the Subaru booth.

If I were the Toyota empire.. I will build desirable cars to take on Volkswagen by building a good Golf competitor, rather than that bland Corolla. The Subaru could have been the Japanese Audi, with its all-wheel drive, turbocharged and their own boxer engines without the German's finesse, brand image or package. I heard they're looking at taking over the Mazda brand?

**YAWN** It's hard for me to get excited about concept cars, much less "teasers" of them. You don't tease an idea, you tease something that someone can have, something that's real.

That profile looks a lot like that of the Prodrive P2 (which, coincidentally, used an Impreza STI as a base).

That a silhouette of a Subaru can ever look like this is a triumph of design resolution and thanks to Toyota, once a manufacturer of dull cars. Great curves Scooby!
