Queen of the Ring - Ring Taxi driver Sabine Schmitz in M5 on the Nordschleife [video]

Sabine Schmitz takes us for a ride around the Nordschleife at the Nurburgring in her BMW M5 ring taxi

The lady makes her living driving a taxi - specifically, the Ring Taxi on the Nordschleife track at the famous Nürburgring in Germany.

This is Sabine Schmitz, Queen of the Ring, a former professional race driver, who now works as a TV personality and driver of the Ring Taxi at the Nurburgring circuit. She seems to enjoy her job.

This video is part of a new marketing project by BMW, called BMW Unscripted, producing a series of films that feature drivers and their experiences with BMW vehicles.

Schmitz's monologue in the video is loose and seemingly improvised and when she says of her relationship with the M5 Ring Taxi, "I feel like I am part of the car," it feels less artificial than it would in a standard advertisement.

BMW produced a series of short films a few years back starring Clive Owen which were story-based. This current series is doing something different but still trying to stay away from the staleness of 30 second ad spots. It's a strategy for communicating brand values that tries to exploit the potential of web video marketing by producing short films that enthusiasts can enjoy.

Good short film, and well put description of the car itself. Having driven my friend's e65 M5 on a back-country road, I would have to agree with her description of "fun to drive, feeling like I am part of the car." Criticize BMW all you want, when it comes to driving experience, BMW M cars that deserve the badge (ie M3, M5, M6) are among the greatest driver's cars ever built.

Yeah I meant e60. I mistyped. And well said. M is about the experience, and BMW knows how to deliver that experience very well.

I love it, maybe one day she can take me for a ride in her M5. That sounds great to me.

So, Porsche is the King of the 'Ring, and Sabine's the Queen of the 'Ring. I'm jealous Porsche...

Since when is Porsche the King of the Ring? Last I checked (30 seconds ago) the Gumpert, Zonda R, 599XX and several others are all faster than whatever Porsche you're thinking of.

He's probably thinking of the "Porsche 917" (I could be wrong)

@dbehmoaras: those cars you counted are not road legal. Check out the production car lap times to feed your ego because Porsche is still there. Not ferrari, no any other brand but Porsche is still the king! Top 5 Road Legal Cars: 6:48 Radical SR8 LM 6:55 Radical SR8 7:11.5 Gumpert Apollo Speed 7:14.8 Donkervoort D8 270 RS 7:18 Porsche 911 GT2 RS

I didn't say anything about road-legal. And no Porsche is not the king. If any brand should be king then, by your logic, it should be Radical, and Porsche can bend over. What I'm saying is no brand is king, largely on the basis that the leaders change all the time. The king of the ring should be a driver and, I would bet that Sabine, the queen of the ring, would choose a BMW over a Porsche any day of the week (largely because she does). Porsche is king? Give me a break.
