All car makers are waiting to know what new technologies this car gonna be stuffed with so they can copy them for their future models.

I bet BMW is waiting to see how Merc styled the trunk/boot so they can copy the styling again... oh wait.. perhaps BMW is waiting to see the dash layout so they can copy that.. oh wait. I think BMW will certainly copy the 4 wheels on the road bit! That is almost a banker.

So you guys are honestly going to deny the S class pioneered quite a few technologies seen on all cars now?

Yeah you guys... I mean Mercedes hasnt really invented anything that important. (airbags... keyless go... ABS... crumble zones... THE AUTOMOBILE (so yes, BMW did copy 4 wheels on the ground)), but the S class is known to more less set the tone for the times with technology...

@rnsaza: Well, actually it's difficult to say who copied who...you see, the first time the bootlid design you're referring to appeared on a BMW model was on the 7-Series in 2002 right? The problem is, it also appeared on the Maybach (owned by Merc) in 2002 as well...
As for the dash design, I think you'll find that, for instance, the W212's (current E-Class) is greatly inspired from the 190 and W124.
And of course, you can't deny that Mercedes really did give us quite a few inventions...and they didn't even patent some safety-related inventions, so that automotive safety in general could improve.

rnsaza, as cnpgs stated, BMW and Mercedes came to the table at the same time with "high rear trunk lids"(the bangle butt). What some don't know however, is both companies designed their vehicles in a wind tunnel using principles recommended by an old 1930s German scientist by the name of Wunibald Kamm. If anyone was "copied", it was Mr. Kamm. And as much as I hate to admit it, if their was ANY interior copying, it was Mercedes copying BMWs "furniture interiors" and installing an HMI similar to BMWs iDrive.

I think that this is a head measurement system from head acoustics. It is used for acoustic measurements of either soundsystems or driving noises. And it is othing special. It is a standard measuring system in the automotive industry.

Really looking forward to this. Hope it'll be prettier than the 221 and revert back to some of the 220 and 140's styling cues. Those were the classiest and most elegant S generations IMO. Interior and tech should be a no brainer class topper. Please don't disappoint us Mercedes as you have been doing with your most recent products.

agreed. This is the only S class I did not fall in love with. Not that I dislike it.... but I care for the W108,116,126,140, and 220 more.

The S-Class has pioneered the way for most of the technologies in the industry. You may like a bmw 7er over the S, or an Audi A8, me i personally rather have the A8, but i dont deny the fact that the A8 is a 7year old S-Class tech wise with new styling/engine tech. The S is the test platform for the future. Why? Because people in that income category want many gadgets, and dont care if they break, as long as they have the latest. Its the perfect test bed for new tech.

Definitely no more of that W220 styling, which is IMHO, a total disaster. Please work on the reliability. I am not sure about everyone in that income category not caring if something break...people would still rather things do not break so it will not interefere with their schedule. Love the W221 design, love the new E-class`s styling, crashing rating, and above average reliability. Let`s hope all that is good with the new E-class will get carried over to the new S.
