STi tuned Subaru Forester tS announced for Japan
Subaru Forester tS 27.10.2010

Forester tS comes with Subaru's 2.5 liter Boxer engine turbocharged to 263 PS (193 kW) and 347 Nm of torque

Subaru has unveiled the Forester tS model for the Japanese domestic market (JDM in automotive parlance).

The Forester tS seems to have taken at least some inspiration from the S-Edition concept Subaru unveiled at the Australian motor show earlier this month. The tS comes with the same 2.5 liter Boxer engine turbocharged to 263 PS (193 kW) and 347 Nm of torque featured on the S-Edition concept.

But this model is going to production, at least for the Japanese market and, although, the engine's ratings may seem like a decent chunk of power for the SUV, curb weight on the Forester tS is a hefty 1810 kg (3990 lbs), so it will take all the power and torque it can get.

Like the preceding Legacy tS, the Forester tS will come with a specially tuned suspension including STi-tuned dampers and springs and flexible front and rear sway bars.

Unfortunately, the Forester tS will be available only in Japan. The series will be limited to just 300 units.

I was wondering, how the heck did it gain 500lbs over the standard turbocharged XT model!

nothing new... the previous model had the turbocharged Cross Sport and STi versions. Seems they're merely completing the Forester lineup with this flagship model. I also doubt it'll be limited to 300 units. The previous model sold by the bucket load, so I dont think they'll stifle profits by keeping it as a limited edition.
