PRIUS GENERATION "X"

Special edition model celebrates Toyota hybrid's first 10 years

KEY POINTS

  • Toyota marks 10 years of Prius in the UK with Prius 10th Anniversary special edition model
  • Special features include body kit, 17-inch multi-spoke alloys, rear privacy glass and embossed black leather upholstery
  • Production limited to 1,000 examples

Available to order now, price £26,150*
Your eyes don't deceive you: Prius has turned street-sharp with front, rear and side skirts, 17-inch smoked-finish alloys and dark-tinted privacy glass. The new look belongs to a special edition model that celebrates the world-beating hybrid's first 10 years in the UK.

And don't assume that dressing up Prius for this landmark occasion compromises its peerless environmental performance. The new Prius 10th Anniversary is every bit as fuel-frugal and tax-friendly as its more sober-suited stablemates, with 70.6mpg and 92g/km combined cycle consumption and CO2 emissions.

Prius's birthday makeover extends to the car's interior, too, with high-quality black leather upholstery, embossed with the 10th anniversary logo.

In other respects, Prius 10th Anniversary shares the same equipment specification as the top-of-the-range T Spirit model, so comes equipped with HDD satellite navigation (with integrated sound library), rear parking monitor, Bluetooth, Intelligent Park Assist, cruise control, smart entry and start, rain-sensing wipers and head-up display.

Only 1,000 examples are to be built, making this the most exclusive production Prius yet. White Pearl or Astral Black exterior paint finishes are available, and the on-the-road price is £26,150*, Orders are being taken now, with first deliveries to customers this winter.

"Designed to appeal to sporty environmentalists." In no way is this car sporty, nor will it ever be. "Sporty look" is not sporty. Faster, lighter, taughter, is sporty. This is just crap on top of crap. I'd rather have the Brabus-tuned Smart over this. At least that actually has some tuning, and not just crap.

Oh the only thing that I could think of that's worse than the Prius are the people who drive them. Talk to an owner about his/her car. You'll want to gouge your eyes out and eat them.

I don't see why you are all hating on this car. Hybrids make sense in Large cities where there is alot of traffic. Since they run on Electricity at low speeds, they burn less fuel. I find them very useful, and they are cheap to run. I don't find the Prius sporty, but this package seems to make it look racier, especially with the black paint/wheel combo.

Well, as to why, the answer in simple: it's an ideological struggle. You see, buying a Prius is like making a statement along the lines of "I'm a tree hugger." Vast majority of hybrid buyers do not make their selection based on fuel economy, but on the so called carbon footprint they're to leave behind. They don't care about sportyness, far less performance aspects of their purchase. Hybrids are diluting the entire phylosophy of what a proper car is: they are nothing but a b*stard half breed of a petrol car and an electric train, an anomalic brood with an inborn infirmity, a deified idol of environmentalist grass worshipers, vehicular pests unworthy of a car status. We, petrolheads at the other end of the spectrum (your's truly included) believe the true interpretation of a car is rooted exclusively in the principle of internal combustion. We find sporty makeup on a Prius offencive, and calling it "racier" indeed a mockery. Lastly, as far as nature is concerned, Toyota itself has recently admited spewing more CO2 to produce a hybred then a regular car, so the environmental benefit of these contraptions is as arguable as global warming.

to thecarenthusiast: So I gess you prefer to buy a Diesel instead? whit all that bad nocive emissions (no, I not talking of CO2...)? If it wasn?t role of the Prius and others hybrids, Carmakers never would Start develop their electric cars of tomorow! about this special edition, i don?t see why is bad... dont we see people tuning car with 1.0 or 1.2 L engine, with sporty weels and spoilers? how stupid is that too if you dislike this prius?

I like Toyota, but the prius is a piece of crap, especially given its battery is incredible toxic for the environment when needed to be disposed of, idiot enviromentalists don't talk about though. While this car has show pieces that try to make it look "sporty" its still a slow piece of garbage as all hybrids are. Even Honda's CR-Z is a failure as its already been criticized for lame handling and pittling performance. I love Toyota, but this car always has and always will be a disgrace, not just to the company but the auto community.
