Chevrolet planning Aveo-based crossover
Opel variant coming as well
[Editor's note: Photos used here are the Opel Meriva concept and Chevrolet Aveo hatchback]
According to a recent report, Chevrolet is developing a new crossover based on the redesigned Aveo.
Details are limited, but AutoCar is reporting the crossover will a ride on a stretched Aveo platform and come standard with front-wheel drive (all-wheel drive will be optional).
Styling will mimic recent Chevrolets, but there will be a greater focus on interior quality. The 'dual cockpit' design will carry over, but the crossover will adopt Opel switchgear and a new high-tech digital display.
An Opel variant will be offered as well, but GM promises the models won't be badge-engineered.
A launch could come as early as 2012.

This is strange as the meriva and aveo are unrelated. The former is based on the corsa, the latter is based on the former daewoo patform. Perhaps GM is finally consolidating its worldwide platform strategy, remind u of another US car company?

Isn't the new Aveo related to the Corsa? It's surely not based on the old 2002 Daewoo Kalos is it? Yuck.... but either way, not a bad idea, heard before about a new Corsa-based SUV.
