Top Gear USA debuts Nov 21st [video]

Will you watch?

At long last, the History Channel has announced Top Gear USA will premiere on November 21st at 10 PM EST.

While there's been great debate over the hosting choices and the potential for success in the US market (it already bombed with NBC executives), there's really no telling what will happen until the show actually airs.

All the classic TG elements are there (supercars, challenges, star in a reasonably priced car, and the Stig), but what do you think? Will Top Gear USA become as popular as the British masterpiece or will it limp along like the Australia version?

Seminal moment in US TV history! However, if it's anything close to the Aussie version, then it's dead in the water! Top Gear without Jezza, Captain Slow and Hamster is like a sports car without speed.

Either they only have a couple of episodes filmed, or the whole show is sponsored by Lambo. It better be filmed in HD too.

As an American I am embarrassed by this.

I just hope it will be as great as the British Top Gear but I can see the first 4 episodes being good then it will be another muscle car show. I dislike muscle car shows and there is too much of them. I want more modern car shows.

"As an American I am embarrassed by this." that's the simplest and best comment. @0:38 "Top Gear is going to kick ass because it's 3 guys and cars." Sorry, but this is all wrong. It is not just about 3 guys and cars. There is no charm or charisma in these american hosts.

Why are the screwing with perfection?! I'm an American but I'm never gonna watch this. Such a disgrace.

While I fear no one can compete with the douche-bag Mr. Clarksons presentation skills (or Tiffs driving skills for those who watch all the "gears"), as a lover of all things automobile I'll give it a good natured hoorah before I label it a disaster. It'll never be REAL TG, but who's to say it can't be a good show none the less...

Most things aren't as good as the originals.

Come on what's with these cheap knockoffs. Every non-British Top Gear is just painful to sit through; they come off as nothing but wannabes. The Clarkson, May and Hammond trio is the essence of Top Gear, period. Don't want.

Many shows we love came from overseas success, we just didn't have an expectation so they were thought original. Honestly, the new faces will take the biggest getting used to, but the photography and style are spot on in that trailer. Just think - how long have we all wanted something beyond Motor Trend TV?? Stop wanting it to be the UK version and get excited we're likely seeing a show that will focus on both exotics and american muscle. This is about enjoying some fun.

Well they're calling it Top Gear of course we're going to want it to be like the British version. Maybe if they called it something else and threw in something original I might want to like it.

Exactly, if they don't want it to be compared to the original one don't name it like the original and do the same as the original

These dudes better be funny...and the track is essential to the Top Gear DNA, I would say Laguna Seca is a good candidate or Infineon.

Of course you would say the show will have 0 success after all...Jeremy is the one who went to Las Vegas and found out from a few Americans that Paris is The capital of Australia and that Europe is situated in Africa...

Jeezer? Jeezer? JEZZA! This won't be as good as real TopGear. It just won't. One professional stunt/drifting/rally driver and 2 douchebags who like cars a bit? Gimme a break. The best birthday present for me on that day will be knowing it's airing and that it's impossible for me to watch it.

Why oh why did they have to call it TopGear? Call it something else, those Americans are going to give the original version a bad image. :/

I *want* to like the US version, but with the few clips I've seen, I'm not expecting much. The three guys they cast for the roles appear not to have any real personality. Or more vitally, they all have the same college boy "oh my god that was awesome!" personality. I imagine it will draw an audience, but it will be drawing from the same demographic as shows like "Overhaulin", "American Copper", etc. It isn't aimed at the more intellectual audience, like the British version is. Oh well.

Top Gear UK stopped being intellectual a few years ago, comm'n...also as a true fan of the show I can sincerely say that the last season was a $h!tt% one. They dont test any of the cars one wants to see, a shame...and its lacking improv comedy, which is always better.

You could be right. I've been without BBC America for a while, so I'm a bit behind. But regardless, the commentary has always been generally clever and entertaining, and I doubt that has changed much.

Commentary is still witty and funny, but the last few seasons it seems to be too scripted...this last season had some great moments, like the Ayrton Senna special and Veyron SS and very few more, but if you judge the season as a whole and even the prior one, they have been weak as far as valuable or even entertaining content goes. I do agree with you on your perception of their personalities, but I hope they can prove us wrong.

They should do it up the right way. Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld and Danica Patrick should be the hosts. I bet the reviews are also going to be very PC and neutral, just like american automotive magazines. These unknown hosts are not likely to trash talk a particular car or manufacturer. And comparison tests will be very neutral, like "...there are no losers in this test..." My fave Clarkson analogy on R8 spyder, and 911 turbo cab - driving these cars are like having chlamydia, you don't get the symptoms, but you get a sense that is there. - referring to torsion rigidity

I think it would be interesting if Danica was the US Stig...I'd watch.

For Stars in a reasonably priced car, they should have the exact opposite car as the UK top gear. You see, in UK they have the little econo tin box micro car. The segment in US should be a boat with sponge ride, like a Crown Vic, or a Hummer H2 with 24" rims.

Give it another name other than top gear other wise people would compare with Top Gear.

watching the original topgear, i feel so excited. i laugh at the things clarkson, hammond, and may say and do. they are funny looking fellows in a good way in a quintessential way. they FIT, they WORK, and thats why everyone knows them. as an american, i believe american topgear is ridiculous. they will not make me feel the way clarkson, hammond, and may do. american topgear is a like a pizza with barbeque sauce instead of regular pizza sauce, with bizarre toppings rather than the normal ones. watching the clip, i was not at all excited and i just thought 'o brother'. they should not call it topgear and should adopt a different title and they would still be unwatchble, at least not in the way original topgear can be. i really hope it fails, as evil as it may sound, and they should try to manage putting the original topgear on the history channels, having the original cast do one or two episodes in the us each season. !!!!
