2012 Saab 9-5 to get significant updates - report
Revised suspension, improved interior
According to a recent report, the 2012 Saab 9-5 will receive significant updates to address several key criticisms.
Speaking with What Car?, Saab's global product boss, Christopher McKinnon, said the changes will include a revised suspension and an improved interior. The latter will involve a reassessment of suppliers - that Saab inherited from GM - with the goal of elevating the cabin to be competitive with Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
The changeover will occur when 9-5 SportCombi goes into production next year.

Good move on Saab/Spyker's part. Saab interiors are just horrible; don't live up to the exterior design and price. Definitely interested in seeing what Spyker can do with it.

I belive Saab has been hiding behind the GM curtain to excuse its inabilities. Its not GM's fault they don't build quality cars. Opel is GM in Europe as well and their quality is far above Saab. I own a 93 and an Astra GTC (a lower class car to the Saab) and the Opel is a class above Saab. I won't be buying another Saab unless Spyker really shapes things up in there.

The problem is not that simple as the interior and suspension. Yes those are BIG problems, but really what the 9-5 had was a special spot, just like the S60. Fit somewhere in between the 3 and 5 series BMW, A4-A6, C-E. This new one is the same size as a 5,A6,E, yet is terribly underpowered and has nowhere nearly as many engine choices as the competition. I think the new 9-5 is too big in all dimensions(except for width). They need to go back to the older 1999-2005 saabs or even the 9000 series to make the 9-5 a true seller.

I just moved out of the place that has the largest Scandinavian population per capita in the United States. Not that many Swedes and Norwegians are interested in high HP in there cars. Ample power with good economy will sell better to the people, who are numerous enough to matter a lot.

I dont think many swedes would go for the new 9-5, it has nothing swedish. Kind of a shame, looks like my next car will be an S60-R. If i can find one in black with the cognac leather. And swedes do care about power, look at the Koenigsegg, and all the tuners for SAAB, Nordic, Maptun, Hirsch, Abott. Myself i have a Stage 3 Nordic Aero, goes like a mofo. But there are SAAB s with over 500whp running on E85, some with only the 2.0L I4.

No update for the 9-5 because they will flush it to down to the sink! I have seen some 9-5s in Finland and they will be rare cars in the near future.
