Chrysler 300 with a Viper V10 under the hood

Short video shows a Chrysler 300 packing some hefty power

RedLetterDodge.com has popped this video up on Dodge's YouTube channel. It purportedly features a Chrysler 300 fitted with the 8.4 liter V10 engine from the Dodge Viper.

That engine produces 600 bhp (447 kW) and 560 lb-ft (758 Nm) of torque and that is certainly a lot of ponies to be squeezing into a volume sedan like the 300.

According to Inside Line the video was taken in the parking lot of Miller Motorsports Park.

And the 300 here is wearing huge wheels - at the very least those are 22-inch rims. Inside line speculates they're 24s.

Is the 300 looking to rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG or is it just having fun with a model to bring to the SEMA show in Las Vegas next month?

Not enough sights & sounds for me to form a real opinion, but the performance should be there.

Chysler's still going buy the business model: If you build a clunker with a huge engine they will come.

Why on earth would you put the 8.4L V10 and deal with all that trouble when the SRT-8 6.2L with a supercharger gets over 600hp anyways? I guess redneck bragging rights.

No way. You cannot be hillbilly deluxe son unless you get yourself a pickup truck. You'd get laughed across the county line if you showed up in one of them fancy city folk cars.

This is a privately tuned non-SRT 2006 300C, not a Chrystler/Mopar sponsored vehicle. And it has a Tremac manual. According to sources the guy did the engine swap himself in his 2-car garage.

The problem with the 300C was never about power. Its always been about handling and lack of refinement. This is the problem with Americans still 40 years later - more horsepower won't make up for crappy engineering.

I agree sensei. Cadillac is doing better in that department.
