Could be called the Alpha

Toyota has unveiled the first teaser image of the Prius MPV.

While the company declined to release additional information, the MPV - possibly called the Alpha - is marginally larger than the standard Prius. This means we can expect a spacious interior with seating for up to seven people.

Under the hood, power will likely be provided by a 1.8-liter petrol engine and an electric motor. This should give the MPV a combined output of 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS).

While nothing is official, look for a possible introduction at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

I don't get why people hate on the Prius either. I had one as a loan car for a while, it was a good car, and personally I think they look really smart and modern

yea, i don't get it either.........i mean of course to be fair, its not a looker, it doesn't drive like a sports car, but it doesn't have to.....its design to get from point A to point B and save some gas while doing it.....i would say its a job well done.

In Europe the 7 seat Verso does about 50mpg with a d-cat engine and because its not haulin baterries, the seats fold into the floor (completely). That's a tough segment for this Prius to enter where its own stablate is being sold.

In fact, based on that teaser picture, the new "Prius V" is essentially the US version of the Toyota Verso "tall wagon" sold in Europe but with an uprated Hybrid Synergy Drive drivetrain. I've seen pictures of the current Verso and that's actually a nice choice, given that Americans have bought the Mazda5 "tall wagon" in fairly large numbers.

at the same note i drove a prius when I took my Camry SE into the dealership for some work.. I drove it 100 miles in one day and the car said to please refuel.. honestly I felt bad because I drove it 100 miles and the gas meter did not go down ONE notch!! crazy! just for that I'd get that car.. btw they low ball their estimates on all those cars Camry gives about 50mpg but window sticker says 32 or something..

Personally, I'll take a VW TDI over a hybrid any day as its much more of a drivers car and you can't beat the low end torque. On top of that, its far more green (IMHO) as there are no battery packs to create or dispose of.
