Ultimate Aero II seeks to reclaim title of world's fastest production car

Here we have some additional pics of the SSC Ultimate Aero II.

The SSC (Shelby Super Cars) Ultimate Aero II sole raison d'être appears to be the world's fastest production car. The previous Ultimate Aero I once held the distinction, until it was superseded by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. The Ultimate Aero II is seeking to reclaim the title.

How will it do that?

By means of a 6.8 liter twin-turbo V8 producing a total of 1,350 bhp (1,007 kW / 1369 PS) and a very lightweight construction mainly of carbon fiber. The UA2's wheels are the world's first single-cast, carbon fiber rims and weigh under 13 pounds (5.9 kg).

That power plant will enable the 2,600 lb (1,179 kg) UA2 to flash from a standing start to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a mere 2.8 seconds - top speed will be 275 mph (443 km/h).

Maybe it's going to need to be fitted onto rails before it can hit 443 km/h while still maintaining aerodynamic stability.

All that power, though, does come at a cost. That is exactly $970,000 (€696,000) for the car.

I hope they can build it with a real VIN. Please no kit car. With the emissions getting tighter....seems like a pipe dream

Now it looks a proper hypercar, unlike its predecessor.

Performance numbers are great , and it looks great too.it reminds me some sort of Pininfarina or Bertone concept,i don't remember. the problem is the name ,just the name Bugatti attracts more customers than whole SSC buyers

One would think that with all the emissions constraints that the speed wars would have crashed into a brick wall. It is indeed quite the opposite. Between SSC, Bugatti, Koeniggsegg, and any others I may have forgotten to mention, it seems that the speed wars are more alive than ever. Makes me happy.

If they can deliver a finished car looking like that when their last effort looked like a cheap Diablo replica kit car i will be very impressed.

Remember Aero SSC guys these car must be road legal and also be in a production line, not just a one off model to beat the Veyron...

Remember fred123456, the Veyron SS was just a limited-run special edition for reclaiming the record.

How many of these are new? Because a lot of them look like pictures printed in TopGear magazine over a month ago... Way to keep on top of things...

Ah, the smugness of print once again reminding us how inferior the internet is.

Great car... but the Veyron is better. Any car that will do 260mph that you can cruise to monaco in comfort or to the shops in is a proper engineering achievement more so than a super lightweight car like this.
