Audi reveals TT RS race version - return to DTM?
Audi TT RS customer race car, 1600, 11.10.2010

Raeder Motorsport will be testing this DTM TT RS prototype in two endurance races at the Nurburgring

Is Audi coming back to DTM (German Touring Car Championships) racing with the TT RS?

This DTM-class Audi TT RS will be run by Raeder Motorsport in two test races this month. It is a race version of the TT RS the Raeder team developed in partnership with Audi's Technical Development and Quattro divisions.

The car features the same 2.5 liter, turbocharged 5-cylinder TFSI engine of the TT RS plus other components from the Audi R8 LMS (LeMans Series).

Raeder Motorsport already races an Audi A1 and a TT in the VLN Championship. The TT RS will be running in the SP 4T class at the Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring on October 16 and 30. The car will be driven by Marc Hennerici and Christopher Mies.

Audi last ran the TT in the DTM series between 2000 and 2003. This TT RS, given that it's being tested in endurance races, may just be DTM-ready.

I though what the writer meant is Audi may place TT in DTM to replace A4 or be another Audi car in DTM as option over the A4.

Of course they know Audi is already in DTM. Before Audi used the A4, they used a TT in DTM. They're questioning whether the TT would replace or run alongside the A4 in DTM.

DTM is not saloons only , the TT raced against the CLK and the Opel Astra coupe a few years ago. it's an agreement between the manufacturers what type of cars they use.

Looking back at DTM, there used to be Audi TT's and other sports cars in too...but then the TT retired, so it mite be back again, or as many say, go into endurance racing...

As per the article, the TT was last seen in DTM in 2003. We're speculating that the TT could replace the current A4 in DTM. Especially since BMW has tentatively confirmed a return to DTM in 2012 with the M3.

An endurance production-based GT car is like the furthest thing from a DTM car, which currently is a purposefully built saloon-look-alike sprint car.

Correct and BMW is currently using the M3 GT2 as an endurance racer which will be separately adapted to DTM, assuming they do indeed return to the series. This TT RS could follow the same path.

to add 2ct the TT was a private entry by Abt racing and not the manufacturer entry to DTM. the wing is so hideous and a clear sign that the aero of the TT is anything but suited for the job! sorry just let the TT be what it is - a frontwheel drive Golf in disguise and not a racer.
