2012 Honda Civic caught undisguised [video]

Déjà vu

The 2012 Honda Civic has been spied undisguised in Dubai.

While details are limited, it's clear the company decided to play it safe when redesigning their bread and butter model. Styling is virtually identical to the current Civic but notable changes include modified bumpers, a new grille, a revised hood and updated head- and taillights.

Like the exterior, the cabin has a strong sense of déjà vu. The two-tier dashboard carries over, but it's slightly more raked towards the driver. Other than that, there's a revised steering wheel and a new climate control system.

Engine options remain a bit of a mystery, but previous reports have indicated that the Civic may receive a new petrol and diesel mill. A dual-clutch transmission is also a possibility, but nothing is official as of yet.

The new Civic will go on sale next year, so stay tuned to WCF for continuing coverage.

What a wimpy car... I don't think even the Si badge could spice that up.

This is the new Civic unless the new City is going to grow quite a bit, and get an tiered dash like the current Civic which I doubt. The City is very popular in emerging markets as a smaller alternative to the 'large' Civic as it's viewed by those in congested metro areas. Here's a link - you can clearly see the wheelbase is far too long to be a City. Sadly, this is the next boring Civic. Yikes! Again. http://hondacarindia.com/city/Default.aspx

The thumbnail photo reminds me of one thing: Buick Excelle, which the current 2011 model is based on OPEL Astra and sell in China. http://tw.news2.yimg.com/xp/pressl/20090507/05/3879799615.jpg Still, I think it is a handsome car with sleek design.

Do you mean the facelifted right? Or Honda migh follow French counterpart, PSA which sells different car (usually previous generation car) with "not actually right" name. Say it is a heavily modified current civic, and sold as city plus or whatever it is, then planned as another line up to slot a new category because, currently Civic is a bit overprice in some emerging countries. The gap can be around $10,000, therefore this model can cut that gap. Still as it is generally a good product, it should be alright though the design is already aging, yet definitely will sell well.

HONDA NEEDS A NEW DESIGN TEAM.. Look on the the element, pilot and ridgeline.... This new civic is not going to work in this American market might work in the Asia and Caribbean but Americans wont attract to that... The only thing that holding Honda is CR-V and Accord and Jazz/City in the Caribbean and Asia markets... They need a new design team for the America market.

you couldn't be more wrong on that, Honda's are always better looking for the Asia and Euro market......so this ugly car might work on US soil.......but not on Asia or Euro market

the Honda City has been out for quite a while now. here's what it looks like: http://www.caradvice.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/honda_city_vti_002.jpg as you can see, the lights and lines around the rear are quite different. the fuel caps are shaped differently too, ruling this out as a facelifted City. sadly, I think we are looking at the new Civic. the Civic is dead. long live the Civic.

OMG, the exterior design is somewhat not only uninteresting but also neither elegant. I simply don't get what is the design language. However, isn't the design somehow too close to honda city or jazz sedan? I mean it looks smaller compared to usual civic sedan and the back is a bit too high and I think got influence by another honda crossover in states (excuse for my memory I can't recall what it is called there).
