BMW teases i100 Coupe ActiveHybrid yet again [video]

Possible launch in 2013

The production version of BMW's Vision EfficientDynamics (VED) Concept is inching closer to reality as the company's teaser site, Dontblogaboutthis.com, has released a new video which shows the vehicle in action.

While details are limited, you can clearly see the prototype has dropped the 6-Series body and now features a full VED shell. This is rather interesting as all the main styling attributes are carried over, expect the glass doors.

No word on what will power the production model, but the concept featured a plug-in hybrid powertain which combined with a three-cylinder diesel engine with two electric motors. Packing 262 kW (356 PS / 351 hp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, the concept could accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds and hit an electronically limited 155 mph. More importantly, fuel consumption was 3.76 liters/100km (equal to 62.6 mpg) and CO2 emissions were 99 g/km.

Expected to be launched in 2013, with a limited production of up to 10,000 units, the model could be called i100 Coupe ActiveHybrid.

I say that it is a bit early in what we see of this car to have a reliable judgment about its look or whether Vonflukiedook has become a guy whose real name as a designer is important to the world. I hope he does break through, but so far I haven't seen much besides "junior bangle puppet".

To hell with hybrids, just build a rival to the R8, a true sports car, btw Adrian brings us the old school bimmers, the new 6 is stunning.

To me a designer, especially a chief designer, needs to bring a new look to a companies product line to be worthy of note. They should at least produce one great design. J. Mays transformed Audi's style, successfully. He transformed Ford's in a hugely mundane way. Jack Telnack transformed a companies look successfully. Many great designers from Italy did this (Pinin Farina with the Cisitalia 202 way stands out). Ian McCallum has done this. Dutch Darrin, Raymond Leowry, Harley Earl and a bunch of other Americans did it in the hay days. The new guy at BMW probably has more people wishing for him to make a successful break-out than any designer in history. He has yet to do anything to make anyone remember him in ten or 20 years.

Whilst he nor Bangle is famous for a complete car design, look at most of todays cars and view the copies of BMW design. Halo lights being one of the major ones, everybody now has led or similar lighting, Audi, Merc etc. The bold line down the side of the car that Merc have used in their C Class that was on the 3 series 6 years ago. The dreaded "i-drive" that is now everywhere. etc etc.

Well see on your own what's better :) Audi e-Tron Spyder is a hybrid that features a mid-mounted (rear) twin-turbo V6 TDI diesel engine with 300 PS (221 kW) and a hefty 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque powering the rear axle only to be complimented by an additional 64 kW (87 PS) and 352 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque from the two electric motors fitted to the front axle. Add that to a 1,450 kg (3,197 lbs) curb weight distributed front to back in an even 50:50 ratio and you have some impressive handling and performance figures. 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) takes 4.4 seconds, top speed is an electronically-limited 250 km/h (155.34 mph). More impressive than that is the fuel-economy for such a raging supercar. 2.2 liters/100 km (106.92 US mpg) and CO2 emissions of just 59 g/km (94.95 g/mile). A fill-up of diesel on the 50-liter tank will get you a range of more than 1,000 km (621 mi). bMW with a three-cylinder diesel engine with two electric motors. Packing 262 kW (356 PS / 351 hp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, the concept could accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds and hit an electronically limited 155 mph. More importantly, fuel consumption was 3.76 liters/100km (equal to 62.6 mpg) and CO2 emissions were 99 g/km. for me all its clear here :)

These are impressive numbers. But you have to remember one thing. Numbers are not everything !!! The fact is that at the end of the day you only remember how it drives not the numbers. And when it comes to what you feel while driving a car, BMW is far more beyond AUDI.
