Next-generation Lexus GS may come with a performance sedan variant called the GS-F to take on the likes of the M5

These are some of the first spy shots of the next-generation Lexus GS testing in Germany somewhere close to the Nürburgring circuit.

The current generation of the GS is already five years old now and due for a generational change-over. These shots show the next GS still operating as a test mule(s), so the model may have a few more developmental steps to take.

But the Japanese premium brand continues to have grand ambitions for the GS range.

According to previous reports, Lexus is intent on building a GS-F variant to take on the performance sedan likes of the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and the BMW M5. But in order to do so, the model is going to need a power rating of around 550 hp.

Speculations suggest that level of power would come from the same 4.8 liter V10 as in the LFA supercar that produces 560 PS (412 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque.

The next-generation Lexus GS is due sometime next year as a 2012 model.

Even the fact that it wants to compete "with the likes of the M5" -- still a boring car. Say Hello to the new Oldsmobile, Buick and "the likes of that".

Spoken like someone who had never driven a Lexus, let alone the current GS. The snobs made their minds 20 years ago to never accept Lexus as a luxury marque. They're not about to change that opinion any time soon.

Umm, najdier... Have YOU ever driven a new BMW or even an M5? And in the wet around some bends at speed and at night? Then driven your cars in the same?

Lexus really wants to play, don't they. I'd love to see that V10 in more common cars. An epic engine that one.

No, no, no! What are they doing? Designs language for this should be more muscular and stocky to compete. This looks like a car for women only.

Out all of the car models in lexus, i would only buy the IS and GS with both having good looks and reasonable power for their model pricing. It would be interesting having another car to join the Jaguar XF-R, BMW M5, Mercedes Benz E63 and Audi S6 (model not out yet) I think the V10 from the LFA car is silly and stupid with two of other car company have just downsized from a V10 to twin turbo V8 (BMW)

Current GS is fat and ugly, I believe that new Lexus GS will look more stylish.

IF they made this with the lf-a engine, lexus would really get a lot more respect from me. It would probably be the only v10 sedan.
