why do they all look the same?!.. it's a pity, moreover for the Elise. the new look doesn't fit it at all.

Sorry but i'm lost. CAN lotus achieve this? I have my doubts
Hope they bill survive this

Looks like a mixup of the new McLaren, a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Nissan. Like the other two models.

How is this a 911 rival? Perhaps a 911 GT2/3. The Porsche is a luxury sports car, this looks like a track car on the inside.

@mhectorgato, the new Elan will be available with 2+2 seating just like the weaker lower priced Evora.

It's still a concept, they can add stuff to the interior any time. More then that, the 911 is full of crap you don't really use or need, but it costs a lot and it's heavy.

@Renegade - how is the 911 "full of crap you don't really use or need"? Wouldn't Lotus be adding the same things if "they can add stuff to the interior any time"?
September 30, 2010 2:48 pm
That's the idea, we don't know, what will be added on the production car, but until then you have to appreciate the racy, clean looks this interior have.

@Renegade, I think thats where the 911 GT3/GT3 RS and GT2 RS come in. No crap, lots of performance.
@3,131 lbs the regular 911 Carrera S (with crap?) isn't that heavy.

don?t think that lotus can handle 4 new cars in a row. especially when they look like each other
September 30, 2010 2:09 pm
It would certaintly be exciting if they could pull it off. iirc, there were WorldCarFan articles saying that these come into production over the span of several years.

I like the new family look I just hope they price them where people can afford them or this is all for bust.
September 30, 2010 2:22 pm
I really like the looks but it is almost exactly the same to the elise and the esprit, if I saw one on the street it would be pretty hard to distinguish them on first sight

What an insult calling it an angry CR-Z. Lotus have some beautiful looking cars (Great on track as well) and lately Honda has done ZIP!!! I only want the S2K and that's over 10 yrs old!

I wonder what engine (from Toyota or bespoke) they are using. From the specs (4.0L, 450PS V6), it doesn't seem like a Toyota engine, unless they bored it out and put on different heads or are going forced induction.
September 30, 2010 3:35 pm
While most manufacturers seem to be struggling with downsizing their engines, Lotus is heading the opposite direction and for that they have moved up in my books, not to mention these beautiful designs that they are coming out with.

Lotus new design philosophy looks great and seem to have been working hard with these new concepts. But the main point that will gurantee success of failure is the price point of each vehicle.Price this elan at $80,000 base and 450hp and you have a instant 911 killer.
September 30, 2010 6:28 pm
If you look in the Lotus pressrelease you'll see that they've priced the Elan at ?75.000. I still think it's a 911 killer.

omg, wordcarfans don't even know about the ORIGINAL ELAN which was REAAR WHEEL DRIVE! lets me give you a hint, mazda miata
September 30, 2010 6:40 pm
i love donato coco's work for Lotus so far.
please keep the Elan light and no need for that 2+2.

looks great..reminds me a bit of the mclaren..
but seems to be a true esprit successor..
October 1, 2010 3:42 am
This reminds me the Aston Martin product range: 3 nice looking cars looking more or less the same (although not as beautiful as Aston Martins)
October 1, 2010 4:58 am
10,000 pounds more than the 911, but 10,000 times better looking!!
October 1, 2010 6:00 am
finally a proper engined lotus. we were getting tired of tiny 4 cyl soapboxes

Nobody beats Porsche without Porsche's quality and it will be a problem, not hp, weight or torque.
