Chevrolet to auction off the second Camaro Convertible

Chevrolet to auction off the second Camaro Convertible
2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

Will be sold later today

Chevrolet has announced plans to sell the second Camaro Convertible at the Mandalay Bay Barrett-Jackson Auction on September 24th.

While it sounds odd that GM is auctioning off the second model, the company will keep the first convertible for historical purposes. Furthermore, since the car won't be unveiled until this fall - likely at the LA Auto Show - the Camaro Convertible Concept will be shown at the auction.  Regardless, all proceeds will go to support the YMCA of Southern Nevada.

Set to go into production early next year, the Camaro Convertible will be offered with a 312 hp (233 kW/ 316 PS) 3.6-liter V6, a 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) 6.2-liter V8 and a 426 hp (318 kW / 432 PS) 6.2-liter V8.

Camaro Convertible Auction to Benefit Nevada Charity

Car collectors on Friday will vie to become one of the first owners of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, several months ahead of its arrival in dealerships and even before the production car is shown to the public.

The winning bidder will receive the second 2011 Camaro Convertible produced for consumer sale. The car on the auction block in Las Vegas will be the Camaro Convertible Concept that has traveled the world's auto shows. The first production model will be used for historical purposes.

The production version will make its debut later this fall, prior to start of production in early 2011.

Chevrolet is partnering with Greg Heinrich, owner of Fairway Chevrolet in Las Vegas, to offer one of the first Camaro convertibles at the Barrett-Jackson Auction on Friday (Sept. 24) at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Proceeds from the winning bid will go to the YMCA of Southern Nevada.

Looks different without the stripes on the hood, but how stupid is offering two 6.2L V8 engines with 26 hp difference between them!

The automatic version has variable valve timing while the manual has a traditional valvetrain. The one with the VVT has more torque and the 0-60 times and fuel consumption remain almost the same between the two.
