Lamborghini revises supercar manifesto - releases teaser no.2
Mystery Lamborghini teaser 2 for 2010 Paris Motor Show, 15.09.2010

Along with the release of their second teaser photo of a mystery new vehicle, Lamborghini has taken the opportunity to level expectations by releasing their "Manifesto for future supersportscars."

Already Lamborghini is telling us power output will not be increased and top speed is no longer a priority. Blasphemy! However, beyond watercooler discussions and matters of ego, the practicality of exceeding 300 km/h (186 mph), even at a racetrack no less the open road, doesn't exist. Plus the pressures of CO2 emission regulations makes the horsepower wars and top speed bragging rights simply no longer viable.

Instead, increased pleasure in driving through better handling, acceleration, and ultimately more effective power to weight ratio, is the key factor now. Surely, this concept of performance through light weight construction is nothing new - go ask Lotus. However, it's a monumental shift in Lamborghini's philosophy. So, how is Lamborghini going to tackle this new strategy?  Lamborghini says in the manifesto, "the magic word for this is Carbon fiber."

"We are mastering a broad range of technologies which put us in a leadership position for low-volume production. Every new Lamborghini will make the best use of carbon fiber to reduce weight," according to Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini SpA.

In the teaser photo we can see some sort of panel or cover made of carbon fiber with 10 cutouts most likely signifying a V10 engine. It is widely believed that the mystery supercar is the next-generation Murcielago, to be named Jota, but as the plot thickens we'll just have to wait for the next teasers leading up to the debut in Paris.

Lamborghini's Manifesto for future supersportscars

"Lamborghini stands for extreme and uncompromising supersportscars of the best Italian tradition.
Tradition as a value however, lives at Lamborghini alongside innovation.

We are redefining the future of our supersportscars around the two main reasons to buy: design and performance. Design has been and always will be reason number one, and we will make sure a Lamborghini will always be recognizable through its significant stylistic features.

Regarding performance, until few years ago priorities were, in this order: top speed, acceleration and handling.
In recent years this has been changing. Together with design, handling and acceleration are becoming more important. Speed is not as important anymore, because all supersportscars are exceeding 300km/h (186 mph) and this is a speed that you cannot reach even on a racetrack, let alone normal roads. We think it is time to make a shift and talk more about handling and acceleration.

The key factor in terms of better handling and acceleration, meaning more immediate pleasure in driving, is the power-to-weight ratio. This is not so much about top speed and so the future will not be so focused on increasing the power, even because CO2 emissions do play a role for supersportscars too. That means the key is in reducing the weight.

A crucial part of this is to understand how to reduce the weight. From the middle of the Eighties, the average weight of our cars has increased by 500 kg because of active and passive safety, comfort and emissions reduction issues, and this is something that we have to change. Since we cannot reduce safety or comfort in our cars, we have to reduce the weight by using new materials.

The magic word for this is "carbon fiber". We started working with carbon fiber in Sant'Agata Bolognese over thirty years ago and today, with our two laboratories in Sant'Agata Bolognese and in Seattle, We are mastering a broad range of technologies which put us in a leadership position for low-volume production.

Every new Lamborghini will make the best use of carbon fiber to reduce weight."

Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini SpA

that top speed is way less than the mercielago, but i wish it can reach the top speed extremly fast

I hope that those are individual intake plenums/throttle bodies. Too bad it isn't a v12 :-/

If it has 10 intakes/exhausts/whatever those are... then no... no it won't be a twin turbo.

I doubt they will go with a turbo setup as Lamborghini have said before that until they can get over the issue of turbo lag, they probably will not introduce a turbo engine. As for the "Jota" being slower than the Murcielago. yes its slower but it'll be lighter so that will mean that it'll have better accerelation. As for the teaser, I'm guessing it could be an engine cover, either way, can not wait the to the finished product.

turbo lag?? man turbo lag doesnt exist with current technology turbo's.. geez i owned a 1990 Nissan GtiR and that had "lag", got in a renault megane RS and golf gti and what lag? Variable Vane turbos have been helping this occasion alot. also, if you're going to have 10 cyl's pushing u a mere 2500rpm to reach boost ur not going to notice it as much haha :P

@fourie- fair enough, the lamb could generate enough boost not to have any lag, but then there must be something that's stopping them from adding a twin turbo kit on to their engines, he'll underground racing has perfected that. So I don't see why they can not do it either.

I believe it has to do with the fact that you have to get a certain air flow through the turbos before they produce power. Meaning that at partial throttle you will kill your turbo boost and at low revs the same will be seen. Lamborghini wants a nice flat predictable torque curve... not one that only shows good torque numbers at higher rpms/throttle positions. It's not a matter of lag anymore like you said. It's a matter of having a smooth predictable engine.

Lot's of Carbon fibre on this image so this is a new Murcielago, I believe. The won't put that much CF in a 4-door saloon or an SUV.

I'm not really disappointed that the top speed will be lowered. The only cars that I think really need the top speed are cars in the league of the Veyron, Koeniggsegg, etc... Although I do kind of wish it would still do 200, I feel that number is somewhat of a defining characteristic for a flagship supercar like the Diablo, Murcielago, and its replacement. We can take solace in the fact that, knowing Lamborghini styling it will look like it's going a million at a red light.

I don't wanna see a Turbo, I wanna see 650hp NA V10 in a 3200lb awd car. I think Lambo knows it can't compete any other way on most all levels. The status quo now is track times, and Lambo better get into smart designs if wants to keep up with the Next wave of supercars. A 4000lb V12 monster is not gonna cut it.

A Lamborghini is NOT a Lotus! Never has been, never should be! This is not about CO2 it is about epic fail. If the Murci?lago replacement is not a V12 then it is not the Murci?lago replacement and is not a worthy successor. With reduced weight traction will become an issue even with quatro. I smell fail, I hope I'm wrong... Miura,Countach,Diablo,Murci?lago, lotus? If this story is true it indicates to me that VW cant or will not spend the money at Lamborghini to build a new V12, Lamborghini will become a total VWAG copy pasted vehicle.

Reducing the weight from 1,650kg isn't exactly going to make it an Elise, is it?

This is not the Murcielago replacement. Lamborghini's new car is a production version of the Estoque concept. Nowhere does Lamborghini say anything about the Murcielago. In fact, in one of the press photos, the current line up is seen in the background (including the Murci) and the tease of a new model. Why would they leave the old Murci if it's getting replaced? This is Lambo's answer to Panamera and Rapide. And a slightly detuned engine will make its way to the next gen S8. You just watch.

@ Wickedhead. Lamborghini has already confirmed that they will be replacing the Murc with the "Jota" 2012, and as for the four door lamb is still on the table but they have no plans of placing in to production yet. and as for leaving the murc on the website and adding a model to the line up is to tease us.
