Lancia Stratos gets thrashing on karting track [video]

The Lancia Stratos revival, commissioned by business owner Michael Stoscheck, was put to a chassis test at the tight cornered karting course in Wächtersbach, Germany on August 26th 2010.

Behind the wheel were Tiago Monteiro, Stoscheck and his son, Maximilian.  A Porsche 911 GT3 RS was used as a benchmark vehicle.

Prior to the next test in Balocco, Italy, the Stratos will be fitted with stiffer coil springs and more direct steering ratio.

It is still uncertain if the new Stratos will be a one-off for Stoschek, or if it will go into a limited series production despite some reports of 25 units to be built.  The car has a rigid carbon fiber body, and is expected to have a power-to-weight ratio of 2.25 kg per horsepower (364 hp per ton).  The car should have a weight distribution of about 50:50.

The Stratos revival was designed by Jason Castriota, now the design director at Saab.  It has been built over the last two years by Pininfarina.

Finally something radical is happening. Understanding that car should be designed or created in Italy and engineered in Germany can produce best car in the world. Could you imagine total overkill if Alfas e.g. created in Italy would be made and engineered by Germans.

That thing is rippin' it up. Anyone know 0-60? 0-100? 1/8 or 1/4 times. I really only care about straight ine accelleration. Not because I'm a stupid fat American, but because thats the only aspect of a car I would really utilize in a race.

... Not being interested in cornering? Isn't that being a "stupid fat American"? This is quite the opposite of a car I would choose solely to get to 60mph quickly... This thing is build for corners!!!
