Audi to unveil new R4 concept in Paris - report
An electric hair dryer?
According to a recent report, Audi will introduce an R4 e-Tron roadster at the Paris Motor Show.
Details are limited, but the concept is expected to be identical to the R4 e-Tron coupe that debuted at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. The only difference, obviously, will be the convertible roof.
As you may recall, the R4 e-Tron coupe featured a lithium-ion battery which provided power to two electric motors producing a combined 150kW (204 PS / 201 hp) and 2,650 Nm (1955 lb-ft) of torque. This enabled the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph).

Hang on, I saw this at Goodwood earlier this year. It didn't have a name then so I assumed it was just a design exercise. None the less, its not as good looking as its bigger e-Tron brother.

improbable offspring of a GT-R and a R8. specially on the side view.

Heyyyyy..!!! I almost forgot about Audi. Build one car, then make one just like it but smaller and another one bigger and then add 2 more doors. Don't get me wrong I like the concept but if the actual car does come out it will surely look like a small R8.
Audi is too afraid to play ball.

Give me a break. Put the two side by side and the R4 is clearly not a scaled down version of the R8. Your comment is nothing more than Audi-hating babble.

Oh yeah? Well your comment is nothing more than defensive Audi-loving drivel.
Apart from the concept-y touches, there is a definite family resemblance. The aspect that sets it apart is behind the rear window. Those buttresses - as well as the GT-R windows - make all the difference.

Oh dear. This must be the Audi R4 Cold Feet Concept. This is going to be just like the R8 V12 TDI Concept. Everyone will goggle over it, there'll be lots of photoshoots and speculation, some magazines might even drive one at 30 mph, but we'll never see a production version.
Audi just don't have the bottle to do anything more adventurous than change the roof or the size of an existing car.

Great car, great company. Audi have very nice designed cars. You muss hate it or love it.

why does so much torque in this, compare to the tesla roadster, and yet performance is only 5.9s to 100kph? the tesla is not exactly lightweight either at 2700lbs.

they measure the wheel torque , which is greater than the actual torque the engines make.

Didn't know they were planning to do the R8 e-tron in end of 2012. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eELE9Wbh5jU

I really like the side profile, really dislike the plastic/cheap/unfinished looking front, and loath the electric/PC/marketing driven greenwashing schtick.

The answer is "what". This is an all-electric sports car they claim to be putting on sale about 2 years from now.

Even though I love Audi, I don't completly see the point in R4? Whats the point with the Audi TT then? Either you have the money and go for an R8, or you go for the TT. The TT-S and RS is amazing cars, and looks stunning! But there is clearly a market for a baby R8 since they are going for the R4?

There may be room for all 3 in their line-up, but I'd prefer this over the TT.

Nothing stops Audi from maximising their commercial opportunities now; they were an also-ran executive brand just 15 years ago! As of 12 years ago, they remain VW's 'cash cow' to present time. Go e-Tron! My next car will be an Audi.
