no...i see a prototype for the VED, the front of the car is undoubtedly that of the VED car.

That is exremly efficient compared to it's performance! But why didn't they wait until they can base it on the new 6-series?

@Zonda, jerry, and mike Its what they call a test mule. They're using an existing chassis to test out new technologies.

Although I hope its a full electric car I would guess it's the plug-in hybrid powertrain first shown in the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept. We're just going to have to wait and see.

Why this 6-series has a wide body and tiny -compared to a normal 6-series- wheels???

This is a test mule. The front does appear to look like the recent VED Concept. The wheels are slim probably to reduce friction to the ground. On the video sounds like an electric motor. Could be a competitor for Fisker, even though Fisker started their lineup based on the 6-series. The tailpipe suggests that just like Fisker Carma it has a small generator in a form of a small motor. This excites me knowing that BMW isn't designing false cars but actually works out to build them. Great performance numbers, too.

The wheels look to be a prototype set, Michelin has designed a wheel for electric cars like this. http://www.allcarselectric.com/blog/1045702_the-next-big-range-extender-for-electric-cars-new-tires

How on earth does a 3cyl diesel and a couple of motors churn out almost 600lb-ft of torque (and 75mpg avg). BMW may have employed some witchcraft here.

It's called technology. 20 years from now, no one would have believed that a V6 300hp power petrol engine would consume ~10liters/100km (Porsche Panamera)?

Imo, it looks like BMW is experimenting a new design language (at the front)... and a possible mule for a possible future supercar (similar to M1).
