I really don't understand the logic behind deciding what cars (or special versions) from Europe should and should not come here.
Bringing a 35k aston martin smart car here even when the regular 12k smart car sales are horrible? Who is in charge of these desicions?

Ha, ha, ha, that's a good one... why should I pay 35000USD for a Toyota iQ with AM name on it??? just putting the AM emblem on a toy will justify this price? And what about the AM's brand image? What? How? Why? Everyone in the marketing department was probably influenced by some strange negative cosmic energy to even imagine something like that. IMO, Aston Martin - one of the most desirable car brands in the world became a joke. Or maybe it's just a prank??? Hopefully

no...this car was built so that the overall mpg avg for Aston Martin can meet the new Euro V regulations set.

The lagonda sedan would get an even longer wheelbase than the rapide, ?'m looking forward to this car already. But don't know if it's such a smart idea.

Here in San Diego we see lots of smart cars. But $35,000 for a lexus/aston/toyota is plain crazy, not smart!

This car is awful, leave it to the Brits and this is what you get.

I think everyone is missing the point here. $35,000 is pocket change to an Aston driver, actually it is cheap for a car apportioned with the leather from an organic lawn fed highland cow, for the drivers premiere deriere. This car makes so much sense because back in the real world of supermarket parking areas where people open doors smack onto other cars with no regard and because of roadworks; being directed to the side only to find a gravel ridden excuse of a lane to chip away your paint. Yes, the team have hit the nail on the head and since only Aston drivers will get to buy a Cygnet, those jealous looks will confirm that the driver has a beast waiting at home for open roads and the beautiful weekend.

jerry05cod4 and backintherealworld put it nicely.
IMO, what AM need is, an aftermarket solution to upgrade the specs of the Cygnet, so it satisfy the emissions spec out of factory, but give some AM owners an option to greatly improve over the stock performance should they choose not to be as green.

A sin and a shame to the Aston Martin. What's next? Smart by McLaren? Skoda Fabia by Bugatti?
