Green Ferrari California set for Paris Unveiling - report
Not a hybrid?
If a recent report is correct, Ferrari will introduce a "green" California at the Paris Motor Show.
Details are sketchy, but OmniAuto is reporting the car won't be a hybrid. Instead, it will likely feature an improved direct injection system, low friction engine components, multi-cylinder deactivation, and regenerative braking like the HY-KERS concept.
While purists will cry foul over a "green" Ferrari, the company has already announced plans to cut emissions 40% and improve fuel efficiency 30% (compared to 2007 levels). This is a result of stricter government standards which have already killed off the Honda Civic Type R and Ford Focus ST.
As always, stay tuned to WCF for full coverage of the Paris Motor Show starting September 30th.

Its a case of having too or no more Ferrari.... or Lambo or any high performance car manufacturer! Why do you think Aston Martin are developing that Cygnet thing? So there CO2 emission overall as a company will drop.

I love a V8 engine but like other older technology it will be replaced. While we may morn the death of large displacement engines and their roar at full throttle, I for one am interested in exploring the deep instantaneous torque pool offered by electric motors. I want a beautiful car (preferably with a German HCI engine or 4 Electric Hub motors)...there is a whole new, higher level of performance out there and I want to drive it.

I would take a turbo 4 in place of a V8 strickly on efficiency grounds. i can't afford to put gas in an 8. nor can I afford to charge an Electric. not to mention that most of our electric still comes from coal fired plants anyway. If everyone plug in a car at night can you imagine the increase in demand for electricity?

That you can't afford a v8 doesn't mean that ferrari shouldn't continue to build it.

the thought of electric Ferraris make me cringe. I know its coming sooner or later, but man I'm gonna miss that 6 liter V12 in the old Testarossa.

Make it fast, make it beautiful, people will buy it. In the end, I don't really think people care exactly what powers it.

Totally agree with you. Just like the Mercedes SLS EV coming out, beyond Beautiful and Fast, Build it they will come and buy!!!!!

unfortunately IMO the California isn't really much of a ferrari already, making it 'green', unless going the direction of the 918 spyder with no less in the fun factor, will be meaningless except to meet the regulations...

IMO, no one in the supercar market cares about gas mileage.

The buyers don't care but the manufactures are going to have to comply. if they want to sell them in the US that is. The new CAFE standards going into effect are going ruin the market. currently Ferrari doesnt meet the 35 mpg average for their range. if they don't make this average they won't be allowed to sell cars here anymore. same goes to lambo and McLaren. Aston has the god awful little car BMW has the mini and Mercedes has the smart car
