2011 Dodge Durango

Chrysler has released the first images and details of the all new 2011 Dodge Durango SUV - the first vehicle to sport the new Dodge logo.

The exterior is there for all to see, an aggressive yet contemporary look with smooth design lines and an unmistakeable front end that breathes Dodge design. The interior has also receieved a massive makeover for a luxurious feel.

Riding on a new stiffened unibody platform, the new Durango will be offered with two engine options. The base 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 is the fuel efficient star of the 2 with the capability to complete 500 miles on a single tank. The second engine option is the more powerful 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with fuel-saving, Multi-displacement system (MDS) four-cylinder mode.

The three-row model is the first in an onslaught of new vehicles from the American brand and will hit the showrooms in the final quarter of 2010.

Dodge Brand Product Onslaught Begins: Introducing the All-new 2011 Dodge Durango, the Performance SUV with a Soul

Buckle in and hold tight. Dodge is jumping back into the sport utility (SUV) segment with the 2011 Dodge Durango, a three-row vehicle spacious enough to carry the entire crew and performance-tuned to thrill anyone who truly loves to drive. Durango will lead the Dodge brand’s new product onslaught for 2011.

From its sleek exterior design to its modern, spacious interior, and intelligent, fuel-efficient and powerful powertrain options, the 2011 Dodge Durango is all-new from the inside out. And the changes are more than skin deep. The Durango’s stiffened unibody structure is engineered with the driving enthusiast in mind. The end result is a vehicle that delivers premium driving performance combined with SUV capability and crossover versatility.

The all-new Durango features two engine options: the standard fuel-efficient 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and the available 5.7-liter HEMI engine with fuel-saving, Multi-displacement system (MDS) four-cylinder mode. Both engines feature variable-valve timing (VVT) and are available with all-wheel drive. In addition to great efficiency, the engines provide exceptional V-6 and V-8 towing capability with standard trailer sway control (V-8 - 7,400 lbs. and Best-in-class V-6 – 6,200 lbs.). When equipped with the HEMI® V-8, the all-new Durango can tow more weight than a 24-foot boat and trailer.

The Durango’s all-new interior is a surprise owners always deserved but never expected. Created by the same interior design studio that designed the much-lauded interior in the Ram trucks and the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Durango’s luxurious interior materials and thoughtful touches will make owners and their crews want to jump in, hunker down and thoroughly enjoy even the longest drive. Everywhere they touch, Durango passengers will feel materials that are refined and soft to the touch. Not only is it a pleasure to behold, it is extremely functional and gives owners a first-class experience, regardless of the trim level. Durango’s interior is also extremely comfortable for all three rows of passengers, and there’s a surprising amount of interior flexibility. With 22 different seating configurations, there’s plenty of room to store and move plenty of people and their gear.

The all-new 2011 Dodge Durango also offers consumers 45 safety and security features, including standard front seat-mounted side air bags and standard side-curtain air bags that cover passengers in all three rows, as well as all-new standard active head restraints. Electronic Stability Control also is standard. Other available safety and security technologies include Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Keyless Enter-n’ Go.

The best part is, consumers will get all of the all-new Durango’s capability, functionality and flexibility and still get excellent fuel efficiency. In fact, drivers can go more than 500 miles, that’s the distance from San Diego to San Francisco or from Detroit to New York City, without having to stop for fuel.

Built at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Mich., the new 2011 Dodge Durango arrives in showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2010.

You don't have to get chrome. It's common knowledge that there are "options". Who passes on a car/truck because of the rim finish? A dumbass, thats who.

Wow, FUGLY, I wonder what this pig weighs, and are those still iron engine blocks? Good old Dodge, never really changing.

Regardless of weight that Hemi 5.7L engine made Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2003 through 2007, and once again in 2009. I don't think that making a feather weight car was one of their goals. And as the old adage goes, "If it aint broke, dont fix it!" Plus when you start experimenting too much you end up with things like heat shields attached with adhesive that burns cars to the ground. I think this vehicle is perfectly designed and executed to target it's intended demographic. And as such it will sell just fine.

Very good looking SUV. Definately a step up from the Aspen, that thing was terrible. Though it's not as good looking as the Aztek. (sarcasm so strong that it made my nipples bleed)

Is this a Euro model in the pictures? It says Citadel on the side...

I doubt it will be exported to Europe. Besides, American carmakers have never presented export models to the domestic press, at least not since the 1982 Camaro Z28-E.

Will quality of engineering and assembly be above the usual American standard? What about endurance in a hot and dry cliamte?

What's the American standard? Do you mean the Chrysler/Dodge standard? Because I'm not sure you've been reading quality reports at all, but Ford is conquering them lately. Not sure about this car, though. I've never trusted Chrysler and I doubt I will now.

???? Almost all manufacturers bring there cars to Death Valley for hot weather testing. The temps there have been recorded to go up to 134 degrees. American manufacturers have been using this place for years, they let the vehicles idle for hours in an enclosure that blocks any breeze. So it goes without saying that yes, it can handle the hot temperatures. Unless maybe you live in Dallol, Ethiopia. But there are no roads there just camels so don't worry.

It is American and should not be any deferent than other models shipped to your area where it is hot.

Andres2007, My experience with Ford cars has been less than pleasant reliability wise. At one point I was wondering if Ford had been exporting assembly line rejects to the Gulf. As for Chrysler products, they seem to have benefited somewhat from the infusion of Mercedes engineering, but that’s behind them now. B M Gearhead, I'm not sure your tone is appropriate .

I'm not sure what you mean by tone. I was just giving reference to what most manufacturers in the States do as a part of development. And Dallol currently holds the record high average temperature for an inhabited location. I got that straight from Wikipedia, no insult insinuated. Check it out yourself.

Notice I didn't say or imply that Ford has traditionally been a high-quality manufacturer; I said that their latest models are topping Honda and Toyota (long-time staples of build quality) in the most recent studies. That means they've listened and made improvements and it is unfair to put them under the tired, overused stereotype that all American cars are of bad quality. Cheers.

This vehicle is most likely the last and best product of the DaimlerChrysler merger. The platform was co-developed by Mercedes Benz and is a mechanical twin of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Mercedes ML SUV...so it has a much higher standard than what Daimler produced with Chrysler before the dissolution of the merger.

The problem is only in the back as it looks too japanese as Toyota Fortuner (silly name, but really make money)/Hilux SUV version. It should be more creative than this plain design

I actually really like this car's looks (the only thing I'm not crazy about is the Japanese-looking rear end). It is incredibly better-looking than the vehicle it replaces, which was probably my least favorite big SUV of the decade in terms of looks. I hope the quality improves as well.

That's THE CAR... And nothing else matters, even rear-end like Toyota Sienna... I love american way of cars, despite I live in jealous Europe. Greetings!

Looks so much better than the old one. Unlike the new explorer this is still an american suv like it should be, not a highed up hatchback.
