Ferrari 458 Spider GTS with glass roof in the works - report
Modified version of the 575M Superamerica roof?
If a recent report is correct, Ferrari is developing a 458 Spider GTS.
While details are scarce, the roadster will feature a glass roof that flips upright and disappears behind the seats. Of course, this cannot be confirmed since previous reports have indicated the 458 Spider will feature a folding hardtop (similar to the one used on the California) or a traditional soft top.
Regardless, the car will feature a 4.5-liter V8 with 570 PS (562 hp / 419 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. It will be connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which should allow it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 3.6 seconds.

Thats beautiful.... but dont they need to concentrate on fitting fire extinguishers as standard??

the glass roof will melt nicely when the 458 does its party trick.

^^ Fires shouldn't be a problem any more. Ferrari has figured out the problem. It's a fuel vapor vent in the rear wheel well that didn't have enough ventilation. It's a very small and easy to replace part, and Ferrari dealers are all offering the replacement part now. It's a cheap and easy fix, and a 458 Spider would come standard with it. I actually think that the new 458 Italia's will come with the new part, so no more fires to worry about.

Awesome. These vehicles are engineering marvels and It's sad to think that such a small thing could do so much damage, to the vehicles and their reputation. Let's hope that this simple overlook can be put in the past and that people will still buy these amazing machines. And I cannot help it but I must point out: Wickedated I was right and you are wrong, it was a poorly designed fuel system and not a cooling issue. Pretty good guess for a "noob" as you referred to me.

Just goes to show how much the little things actually matter in the all around package.
This is one of my favorite cars now for sure.

Glad to hear it's a simple thing, albeit non-trivial, if indeed you are correct. I love this car and is is easily one of the most advanced, if not THE most advanced car on the road in terms of automotive technology (engine/ engine management, transmission, aerodynamics). A very impressive feat.

glad to hear they fixed the fire hazard...@edison, i would say although definitely one of the most advanced, the 599 GTO probably beats it in that catergory.

the marketing guys say a lot of things, but just to be safe , they should put a hammer in the car and a sticker with "in case of fire, break the glass roof".

according to this, it is the wheel arch liner, not any fuel vapour vent.

Hey out there, do you think like me that the front of this car is not very nice?

now they can jump out of their car very very quickly in case of fire.

I dont think the artist that did the rendering did a very good job.

Oh dear, a 458 with a Superamerica flat cap. That would be worse for a mid-engined car because you'd cover the engine up. I'll take a normal Spyder. Or a GTS version akin to the F355 GTS (think Toyota Supra Aerotop).
