Way to go Chrysler! In times when everyone searches for alternatives to big petrol engines you still use that decades old hemi engine!

well nobody is forcing you to buy it, so your attempt at this very very dry humor is kinda lame

So, because WCF runs an article over the new Charger SRT-8, in your puny mind, you think they aren't doing anything with alternative fuel? Nice. Now why don't you say this in the articles about German vehicles using gas engines? Or how about Japanese vehicles? Oh I know why. For some reason you have some unjustified hatred for the U.S. Douchebag much? Yep.

Dodge making over a 100hp/lt, never gonna happen. Its a 6.1 lt, not a 4.1. I like that engine, wish they put it in a better car, and looks like they will, even though probably only a little better. Its a decent deal, MB, BMW, Jaguar, and Audi used to offer about the same or less for much more money 6-7 years ago. The E55, RS6, M5 and Type R were/are good cars, so this is too. Its progress I'd say.

Wrong, the Dodge Spirit and Daytona R/T produced from 1991-1993 had the Chrysler 2.2T3 engine. This was a turbo 2.2L that produced 224hp. This is just one example of course but it just goes to show they have been doing what you say is impossible for some time.

BMGearhead, It is such a shame that dodge stop making the Daytona Iroc turbo 2.2 engine, that engine was way ahead of it's time, I think had dodge kept working on it and refined it over the years, I bet that engine now today could had made as much as 150 hp per liter, take for exp, the new 2011 hyundai sonata 2.0 turbo with 274 hp, that engine make 137 hp per liter! Dodge had a gold egg and gave up on it, That engine was good, it may had needed work but I am sure dodge could have had one hell of a special engine in the Iroc 2.2 turbo! I guess some could say Dodge lead the way, BEFORE hYUNDAI, GM did the ecotec turbocharged 2.0 260 hp engine! One could wonder did the Iroc 2.2 turbo dodge engine inspire them!

Chrysler employed some legendary talent to help produce that engine, Carol Shelby and Lotus were involved with the cylinder head design if I remember.

I would rather buy this Dodge over a competing German sports sedan. But why should I? I mean, the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E Class both look better, sound better, and perform better than the Dodge. Why don't I just save and buy a German car? Or, better yet, why don't they start swallowing their pride and try some German or Italian pointers. For example, the wheels on an srt 8 look really skinny and passive (especially when seen from the back) compared to the fat, juicy, power tires seen on the German and Italian (high powered) automobiles.

If German or Japanese manufactures would use a HUGE 6.0L engine with less than 100 hp/LI would bash them too, but for now only American mfrs are doing that, specifically Chrysler subsidiaries. Also I haven't seen anything related to Chrysler researching alternative power trains; putting stickers about electric motors on a Town and Country using combustion engine doesn't count. You can thank the Italians (Fiat) and the US Government for saving their asses, or you forgot about that already? And wasn't the use of non-economical engines one of the reason why the GM and Chrysler needed a bailout in the first place? Ford was in much better shape because they were piggy-banking in their European Division which makes awesome cars (Mondeo, Focus, Focus RS and ST and the list can go on). I cant wait to see what you gonna do when the oil prices will go up, because that's the only way they will go from now on

I'm so sorry but I have yet to see any Mercedes with the sales designation 55 or 63 AMG hit your special 100hp/liter cutoff that you hold so dear. One of them didn't make the cut even while employing a supercharger. Now let's look at the American equivalent to the R230, how about the beloved ZR1. 6.2L and it's putting out 638hp. With pushrods and only 2 valves per cylinder. Please don't confuse me with an domestic Fanboy, I absolutely love driving the R230, but let's not give credit where it is not due.

That's why I didn't say anything about the engines use by GM, I know they have some great and fast engines... like the one in the Cadillac cts-v wagon, that one rocks! If I'm not mistaken I think is the same as the one used in the zr1

Looks like dodge designer want to be designers for the new lancer. The front end looks like the new lancer. Wish they would use the taillights on the challenger

A Turbo engine making 100hp/lt is not a big deal, although its not a bad thing either. Not that a 100hp/lt is needed in general. Most all cars, including many sports cars do fine without them. Porsche (996), Mercedes (clk63 bs), Ferrari (575m), and Lamborghini (lp640) made good sports cars without hitting the mark. I'd like to see Dodge or anybody really continue making sports cars so well.

The writer of this article obviously spent little time making sure his statements are correct. It has a 6.1 Hemi that is being upsized to 6.3 litres (modern powerplants, neither engines are decades old) nor does the Charger currently have full width taillights nor will it...you can plainly see the shape of the taillights...

Now THAT's refreshing! for the 1st time since the beginning of the green movement, an engine is being replaced with a bigger one! Warming to know that not everyone's hopping on the treehugger/economicist bandwagon.
