Ford Racing 624hp supercharger kit for 2011 Mustang 5.0 announced
Ford Racing 2.3L twin-screw supercharger kit for 2011 Mustang GT 5.0L TiVCT V8 23.08.2010

A new kit from Ford Racing promises to raise the power output of the 2011 Ford Mustang GT by 51 percent.  With a 2.3-liter twin-screw supercharger, the 5.0-liter 4v TiVCT V8 engine is tuned to deliver 624 horsepower (465 kW, 633 PS) and up to 536 ft-lb (726 Nm) of torque.

For $7,500, customers will get supercharger, along with an air-to-liquid intercooler, drive belt, intake manifold, and robust new fuel injectors.  Also included is a ProCal engine calibration tool.  For an extra $600 the normally black kit can be purchased in polished chrome.

However, we are not sure why anybody would actually want to buy this package.  According to their website, Ford Racing offers a 750 horsepower (559 kW, 760 PS) polished supercharger kit for the 2011 Mustang and a full $900 less than the black kit.  That kit provides 17 psi boost over the weaker kit's 9 psi.  It instead uses a 2.9-liter Twin Screw supercharger.

More power, for less money.  We're pretty sure which Mustang package we'd pick.

Ford Racing Reveals Supercharger for 2011 5.0L TiVCT at Woodward Dream Cruise

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 20 - Ford Racing has announced today the availability of a new, 2.3L twin-screw supercharger for the 2011 Mustang. When mated to the all-new 5.0L 4V TiVCT V8 engine, this 50-state-legal powertrain, can produce 624 hp SAE @ 6900 rpm and 536 lb-ft SAE @ 4700 rpm. This is the first Twin-screw unit available to consumers.

The new supercharger is Ford Racing's first power upgrade component for the new 5.0 engine. It was developed by Ford Racing engineers, in close collaboration with Ford Motor Company's powertrain engineers, Team Mustang, and key partners in Roush and Whipple. The supercharger is being seen for the first time Saturday at the annual Woodward Dream Cruise in Ford's Mustang Alley display.

"Superchargers are the ultimate in power upgrades for Mustang enthusiasts," says George Goddu, Ford Racing Performance Group Manager. "Calibration for a modern V8 engine, especially one with twin-independent variable cam timing, is incredibly complex. Production calibration for the 5.0 engine took 19 months. Having that knowledge base to work from is a huge advantage.

"In fact we had the whole engineering background of the engine right from initial concept," Goddu added. "With that knowledge base, and extensive collaboration across the team, we are able to offer a top-notch supercharger, induction kit and the optimum calibration. This results in great power, drivability and durability."

"After more than 100 hours of accelerated durability testing, the entire Ford Racing package performed flawlessly," reports Dev Saberwal, Ford Racing's lead calibration engineer. "Ford Racing performance parts are subjected to extensive testing to ensure optimum performance across a broad range of conditions."

This supercharger comes as a complete package, and it's available in three levels: a 525 hp kit with a 12/12 warranty; a 624 hp kit and a tuner kit for racing and extreme enthusiasts. Each of these impressive kits gives 2011 Mustang owners the opportunity to boost the performance of their cars to new levels.

Ford Racing Performance Parts offers a large selection of performance products from complete race cars to injectors. For Mustang enthusiasts Ford Racing's catalog of performance upgrades offers a range of enhancements for the 2011 Mustang as well as a wide range of power, chassis-system and appearance upgrades for 2010, 2005-2009 and earlier Mustangs.

I wonder if the 624hp is more streetable? But would these add-ons affect warranty at all? If not, that's a cheap 750hp!

My Shelby is 620HP (after mods). It is streetable until you hit the gas, then it is all over the place. All ford racing packs, if installed by an authorized ford dealer, are covered by ford racing warranty

The only thing I can think that would cause the price difference is that perhaps the 750hp version has not gone through the process to be 50 state street legal. Also I wouldn't be suprised to find that the bigger blower voids the factory warranty and is intended for racing use only running race fuel. I recently read an article on Motor Trend and with a professional driver behind the wheel the stock Mustang was 0.09 seconds slower than an BMW M3 on a road course, Willow Springs I believe. With the $26,750 you save buying this car instead, you could bolt this on and have $19,250 to upgrade whatever you wanted to on the suspension or interior. In my book, this is a no brainer.

You could also build yourself a bitching 250CC go-cart for about 10k, carbon fibre frame, brembo brakes. 0-60 2seconds, 120mph top speed. Would eat the M3 and Mustang alive, and save yourself 22k and put a downpayment on a house. If life was as simple as figures and data on a pamphlet we'd all be billionaires. A car is more than just figures, that's why BMWs are still selling. It comes down to personal taste, for me the M3 is a no brainer over a mustang. Just like a Porsche over a Vette.

100% correct, personal taste. I have always been the guy who cheers for the under dog, I don't know why. Plus I have a fascination with cars that appear to be blah, but go like stink.

The 750HP package is for the 5.4 liter Shelby SVT GT550, not the 5.0 liter GT. More power. 2 different motors.
