Spies hanging around the paddocks at the Nurburgring managed to get some fantastic shots of the Lotus Evora S.  The car will undertake a full load of testing in the coming weeks as it prepares for a debut in Paris on Sept. 30.

As we told you earlier in the week, the supercharged 2+2 will be shown off alongside an automatic version of the Evora with a dual-clutch gearbox.  The two cars were "unintentionally" confirmed to automotive media in an e-mail from Lotus PR head Alastair Florance.

"[Both the] Evora S and Evora Auto will be on the stand in Paris alongside the new car(s) not yet announced (let's maintain the mystery for now!)," said Florance.  No word yet what "the mystery" could be, or if it is a bluff altogether, but our hunch is that it is the 2012 Lotus Esprit.

The Lotus Evora S was photographed wearing a massive rear diffuser, and what appears to be high performance tires on lightweight wheels.  The car's supercharger will add an unknown increase in performance to the 3.5-liter V6 engine that kicks out 276 horsepower (206 kW, 280 PS).

This day and age there is no reason for a naturally aspirated 3.5 liter engine to produce less than 300hp, especially in a performance oriented vehicle such as this.

Agreed. It's otherworldly in corners, but 276bhp and very long gears make for a slow car for its class. 300+ is a given, and I hope that the gears are closer. According to GT5 Prologue, it's geared to go ~230mph!

WOW, this car looks so good! I can't wait for Paris! P.s. @B M Gearhead, It probably has something to do with the fact that the engine is Toyota-Sourced. haha

I agree.. however.. Lotus were never about all out power but more about balance and poise.. but more power is just what it needs.. it can easily handle atleast 450 Horse Power.. after all a Focus RS(a hatchback) can easily handle 350 Horse Power..

There are two very good reasons. Space and emissions.

Nope still not satisfied. They allready have the space, the 3.5 liters is allready there. Just make it more efficient, it will fit in the same place and the weight will remain the same as well. Emmissions, the current V6's offered by Ford, GM, produce more power and use less fuel than "most" comparable engines from competing manufacturers. Plus with the direct injection they do all this while still being able to fill the tank with cheap junk fuel.

 M! M!
i just feel sorry for this car. it looks gorgeous but somehow at its price point, many buyers wouldn't understand the concept of a 276hp toyota in this exotic body, when there is much more power in a 911 for instance. Lotus owners wouldn't quite understand why it is so heavy either. Hope the Supercharged version will give it more honour.

You get a Lotus for its handling and lightness not for its power.

Then they should keep it at 4 cylinders. With 275hp you could have put a turbo 2cyl. All I'm saying is that if your going to have 3.5 liters at least make the most of it, at least to offset the weight penalty.

Wonder how much power it gets with a supercharger. It's a cheap solution for extra power.

Lotus, the only British car company to be in profit last year, has managed to underachieve with its most promising car in decades! Lost opportunity; a pity.
