 Volkswagen CrossTouran revealed
Volkswagen CrossTouran 12.08.2010

While the hottest of hot cars prepare to strut their stuff in Pebble Beach, Volkswagen is using this week to introduce a new version of the 2011 Volkswagen CrossTouran.  The crossover version of the compact MPV will hit European showrooms with a €27,700 starting price.

Like the first CrossTouran, released as a 2007 model year vehicle, a wide selection of engines will be available on the MPV.  Amongst these is the first EcoFuel natural gas model available on the range.  Between this unit and the various TSI and TDI engines, the CrossTouran ranges in output from 105 to 170 PS (77 to 125 kW),

Features on this car include new front and rear bumpers, a 20 millimeter higher ride height thanks to longer suspension springs.  Beneath the wide wheel arches sit 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215 tires at the front and 235s in back.  Between the front and rear wheels sit modified side sills.

A roof rack is also included on the car, which has added features like upgraded seats, power windows, leather elements and stainless steel-like trim.  40 storage bins are all over the car, which is capable of holding up to 1,989 liters of cargo.  A third row of seats is also available as an option.

‘Lifestyle all-rounder' - The new CrossTouran available to order from tomorrow

Wolfsburg, 11 August 2010 - It's the positive lifestyle statement of the summer: the new CrossTouran! Following the CrossPolo and CrossGolf launched earlier in the year, the CrossTouran now fills the gap in the Cross lifestyle family. Volkswagen's ‘more extrovert' compact MPV is now available to order from a starting price of €27,700.

The Touran already follows the new Volkswagen design DNA and impresses externally with a dynamic character line, a new, powerful rear-end design and two-part taillight clusters. However, the CrossTouran traditionally ‘goes one better' and with its modified bad road kit complete with longer suspension springs it gets 20 millimetres more ground clearance than the standard model. On top of that comes the mix of 215 tyres at the front and 235s at the back, both on 17-inch alloy wheels. Thanks to its striking exterior elements the new CrossTouran is also instantly perceived as an autonomous model. The widened wheel arches form a unit with the side sills, which are drawn right up into the doors. It is also given a sporty character by the differentiated front and rear bumpers and the black grained protective strips on the doors.

In addition to a specific design the autonomous ‘Cross' brand also stands - like ‘GTI' and ‘R' - for a specially designed set of features. As well as the alloy wheels, bodywork kit and bad road suspension, the new CrossTouran boasts added features aplenty: a roof rack in matt aluminium, decorative trim in stainless steel look, electric windows front and rear, extra comfortable seats in the front with height adjustment and lumbar support, leather steering wheel plus leather trim on gearlever knob and handbrake and a special seat cover pattern.

Through the sum of its special features the CrossTouran glistens with Wolfsburg virtues: interior comfort and convenience (40 storage bins and optional third seating row), driving fun and environmental awareness. For instance, as well as with the familiar TSI and TDI engines the new CrossTouran is now also available with the particularly efficient and environmentally friendly ‘EcoFuel' natural gas engine. Fuel consumption when driving on natural gas is 4.8 kilograms per 100 kilometres, which equates to CO2 emissions per kilometre of 133 grams. The additional natural gas tanks are located beneath the floor, so that the vehicle's cargo capacity of up to 1,989 litres is not affected.

In total CrossTouran customers have a wide array of TSI, TDI and natural gas engines to choose from, ranging in power from 77 kW to 125 kW (105 to 170 PS). This lifestyle-oriented all-rounder - complete with all visual and technical refinements - can now be ordered in Germany from a starting price of €27,700.

A US-market Touran with the 170 bhp I-5 engine from the Golf/Jetta and the 7-speed DSG transmission would actually make sense, since Americans are rediscovering the utility of station wagons.

Three new Volkswagen models expected from DRB-Hicom plant August 14, 2010 PEKAN, Aug 14 – Three new Volkswagen models are expected to roll out of the DRB-Hicom plant in Pekan, thus strengthening the district’s position as a regional automotive hub. Prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said assembly of CKD (complete knock down) vehicle components of the renowned German brand would see the vehicles roll out of the plant by the end of the first quarter next year. He said the joint venture was agreed upon after his meeting with Volkswagen top officials during his overseas holiday recently. “I’ve always been monitoring the developments involving DRB-Hicom and during my recent vacation, I took the opportunity to meet the Volkswagen officials and ask them whether they were still keen to establish cooperation with DRB-Hicom. “Actually, they were waiting for the indication from me whether they could sign the agreement with DRB-Hicom or not,” he said in his speech at a Ramadan gathering with DRB-Hicom management and staff, here, today. Also present was DRB-Hicom Berhad managing director Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil. Yesterday, DRB-Hicom and Volkswagen signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the assembly and production of Volkswagen vehicles in Malaysia. Najib said Volkswagen also requested for incentives from the Malaysian government to make the DRB-Hicom production plant here its export base for the Asean region. “This needs to be studied and approved by the government,” he said. Najib said the joint venture would also contribute to the success of the East Coast Economic Region’s development plan based partly on continuous development of the local automotive industry. In this respect, he said, the DRB-Hicom management and staff needed to carry out transformation to put the company’s image at the highest level, thus building foreign manufacturers’ confidence including those which had already established cooperation with DRB-Hicom like Suzuki and Mercedes-Benz, in the local automotive industry. “Total commitment from all quarters is a vital ingredient for continuous success.” The prime minister then together with over 100 residents performed Tarawih prayers at the Batu 8 mosque, here. – taken from Bernama, which model not mention if this CrossTouran will be the one.
