Warranty covers new vehicles up to 100,000 miles (160,000 km) and requires a yearly inspection

British brand Vauxhall is standing behind the quality of its vehicles and now offering an unprecedented lifetime warranty on all new cars.

The Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty is now in effect on any new Vauxhall registered from August 1, 2010 onward. The warranty covers the life of the car up to 100,000 miles (160,000 km) for its first owner, although it requires a (free) yearly inspection. Vauxhall is also working on a plan for the warranty to be transferable to a second owner for a fee.

"With the [lifetime warranty], we are making a strong statement of confidence in the quality of our products," said Vauxhall Motor's U.K. Managing Director Duncan Aldred in a company press release.

The warranty will cover all major systems on the car including powertrain, brake, steering and electrical components.

A great enticement for prospective Vauxhall buyers in the U.K., no doubt, but what about the rest of Europe? Naturally, (identical twin) sister brand Opel will follow suit?

VAUXHALL FIRST TO OFFER LIFETIME WARRANTY ON ALL NEW CARS

  • All new Vauxhall cars now covered by lifetime warranty from day of registration
  • Comprehensive OEM warranty covers all major components throughout car's life
  • Enhances appeal of Vauxhall's world-class car range still further

Luton - In an unprecedented industry move, Vauxhall is introducing a lifetime warranty on all its new cars with immediate effect, providing the potential of comprehensive coverage throughout each vehicle's life.

Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty will apply to the first owner of any Vauxhall car registered from August 1 2010. Warranty coverage continues throughout the life of the car until it reaches 100,000 miles.

‘With the Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty, we are making a strong statement of confidence in the quality of our products and a clear intent to provide the very best customer service in the UK,' said Duncan Aldred, Managing Director of Vauxhall Motors.

The comprehensive new OEM warranty cover includes powertrain, steering system, brake system and electrical equipment throughout the life of the vehicle. To maintain the Lifetime Warranty, owners simply need to visit a Vauxhall retailer annually for a free vehicle inspection. Vauxhall is also set to announce details of a further programme enabling second owners to purchase the Lifetime Warranty.

Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty is the latest innovation from the UK's oldest surviving car maker, which this year celebrates its 107thanniversary. Since 2006, the company has launched a raft of world-class products, including the latest Corsa, Agila, Meriva and Astra models, as well as the European Car of the Year-winning Insignia.

‘Great design, engineering excellence and innovative thinking come as standard with every new Vauxhall so a lifetime warranty, with its boost to the customer ownership experience, is a natural extension to the appeal of our products,' added Duncan Aldred.

Lifetime warranty that only covers 100,000 miles? I guess Vauxhall expect that its cars will only last 100,000 miles???

That's exactly what I thought. Doesn't really give a good image on the reliability. Oh well, whatever, I'm never going to get me an Opel anyways.

Unprecedented? Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep offered lifetime powertrain warranties for about 2 years just recently.

This is the whole car. That makes a difference as it's very often electrics that pack in before an engine. Smart move, although it is somewhat disengenuous to call it a lifetime warranty then put a mileage limit on it. But then I suppose any warranty, even Kia's 7 year warranty, has a corresponding mileage limit which will end the term sooner if reached earlier.

I wonder if Opel do the same. Sounds nice but to celebrate we need to know exacly all conditions. Like to me it's about 8 yrs riding =)

As far as I know, here in the UK car brand KIA have been the only manufacturer offering a 7 year warranty, something that's attracted a lot of customers. A lifetime/100,000 mile warranty is only worthwhile if Vauxhall made cars worth keeping for a lifetime. Another Lotus tuned VX220 roadster turbo would be nice. Not a fan of the wayward Manaro/Holden muscle cars.

Well if that's 8-10 years, that's still as long as you're likely to own a family car. Our old family wagon was with us for 11 years, but because it was Japanese, it didn't really need a warranty.
