2011 Porsche 911 (997) Speedster Rendered

2011 Porsche 911 (997) Speedster Rendering

Our thanks go out to WorldCarFans member porschecarreragtmay6, who has sent us a new set of renderings featuring the 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster.  The artist based his drawings on a few spy shots of the car presented by AutoWeek.

By e-mail, he said, "There are plenty of spyshots of the 911 Speedster ... and it looks like it will have the bodywork of the Sport Classic."

The artist gives us a nice, imaginative look of the Speedster, by using an interesting body colour that is matched by the roof cover.  He touched up the front bumper quite a bit, changed the brake caliper color to yellow, and revised the side sills.  He also cleaned up the five-double-spoke wheels, giving them larger, shinier rims.  The car is expected to have standard equipment like ceramic brakes, active suspension, and a widebody package.

Potentially, the Porsche 911 Speedster could be released before the end of the year.  It would be the first 911 to carry the Speedster name since the 1990 series that was assembled less than a 1,000 times.  The new car would likely be limited to about 100 production units.  It will use the company's 3.8-liter straight-six engine with the X51 Carrera power kit to produce 402-hp (300-kW, 408-PS), getting the car to 100 km/h in about 4.5 seconds.  Top speed on the €230,000+ car could be 306 km/h (190 mph).

Big thumbs up to porschecarreragtmay6.  Check out the Teamspeed.com source link below for many more amazing Speedster renderings.

230 000 ?.. ? Thats just sick. You could buy a Turbo S or almost a GT2RS for that!

I thought the Clubsport was expensive, but hey it's a limited edition. I get it. But this is about twice the price of the Clubsport, and so far as I work out it's just a Clubsport Cabriolet without the cool ducktail spoiler, which is worth 20% of the Clubsport. Anyone who buys this over a better looking, better performing Turbo Cabriolet is a dunce in my opinion. I don't see the appeal of this car at all, especially when it costs about as much as a GT2-RS. Knock the price down by ?100,000 and maybe it would be more desirable.

Price DOES NOT MATTER on a car like this. If you're going to get a Speedster, you get a Speedster. Not something else. This car isn't meant to be the best looking, or the fastest Porsche ever. It's meant to be a very exclusive car, that will go to people's collections. Porsche doesn't care about the money mad on these cars. They will probably all be sold out within the first few days of production though. You're missing the purpose of this car.

@ porschecarreragt...I agree on your points, but the similarities to the clubsport are too subtle to make it "special", but then again their isn't much imagination left to remodel the 911! it's not like they're gonna put rounder headlights.

@jerry Well, you also have to remember, in 20 years, the normal 997 won't be worth very much, but the Speedster and Sport Classic will be worth a very good amount of money.

I completely understand the purpose of this car. It's just poorly executed in my opinion. What is it exactly that makes this car exclusive besides the wheels and the speedster name? Then again, this is only a rednering and I'm sure (I hope) the finished product will look more the part, but other exclusives had something, well, exclusive to offer. The One-77, for instance, ugly or pretty (I personally think it looks spectacular), certainly looks more unique than other Aston Martins, and has the performance as well. Not to mention that everything aside from the steering wheel is pretty much bespoke to the One-77. Another one is the LF-A: nothing like an ordinary Lexus. Even Porsche's own Sport Classic, has the ducktail, which I believe is worth 35% of the car itself. Another is the Balboni--the only current generation Lamborghini to offer only RWD and 6-Speed manual. Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black, Scuderia 16M, Enzo, (the list goes on and on), were all exclusive cars and therefore all offered something exclusive, whether in performance or styling. What does this offer, besides exclusivity? I firmly believe that an exclusive car should offer something more than just being exclusive. What makes a Speedster that much more special than a normal Porsche Cabriolet? Moreover, what makes a Speedster, a Speedster? The 356A Speedster offered something more over the standard 356A, namely performance that made it a proper speedster in its time. Prove me wrong and I'll stand corrected.

Why not just put a pic of a 2010 instead of a rendering of a 2011.
