The wave of the future?

The world's first BMW dealership dedicated to M models has opened in Singapore.

While details are limited, Munich Automobiles will only carry the M3, M5, M6, X5 M, and X6 M. As such, the dealerships boasts plenty of M signage and a huge poster of historic M models.

Overall, the whole idea is a little crazy. Singapore has an insane automotive tax (a new M3 costs $300,000+) and the M lineup is a little weak right now as the M5 (E60 / E61) has ended production.

Will Munich Automobiles be successful? Will there be additional M-only dealerships? Only time will tell.

There's an AMG/Maybach only dealership in HK and their car taxes are almost as insane. It's on the way out of HK to Repulse Bay.

What if I were to tell you that a Honda Fit GE6 1.3l auto costs 69,000USD right now? Golf GTI going at 121,000USD. Welcome to Singapore!

The tax is reasonable when you realise that Singapore is about 30km long. Where will an M-anything stretch its legs? it's a caged eagle.

As long as they could sell "vintage" M: E46, E36, E30 M3, older M5s, etc. I would say that there could definitely be a business opportunity here!

For sure. They should offer the older models in pristine condition. That way their showrooms are full and fun.

And that's because of what?in Iran they say the tax is for helping national auto makers but actually it is useless and just make manufacturers lazy.but how about yours?

I thought there is another one in Indonesia that has was established 2 or 3 years ago. Maybe this dealer will reject any un-M models to ask for regular service (because those diagnosis equipment can be used for the whole BMW engines including for Rolls).

In Singapore, custom duties for car import is 41%, USD700 for registration and an additional 150% for ARF(additional registration fee). On top of that, you need to bid for a Certificate of Entitlement (COE) to owe a car for 10 years and the last bidded price for smaller than 1.6l car is 26,400USD and for 1.6l~2l car, the price is 31,500 USD.

BTW, compared to anywhere else in the world, including the very countries Porsches, Ferraris and Astons are made, America is the cheapest place to own and drive a car. God Bless America...and May God Keep It That Way...Amen!

Singaporeans are smart as they know everything BMW that's not an M Division Car gets its ass handed to them by many companies including Hyundai.

A big HA! and a sarcastic comments that follows like this one: GOOD LUCK WITH THAT... Now seriously, It won't last long before they start selling regular BMW's with certain M "packages" or "accessories" to be profitable. Interesting business concept. If we where in this economic situation, I'll say it is going to succeed.

Indeed, Munich Automobiles may not last long selling BMW M cars exclusively in Singapore, given its small (or limited) car market. Perhaps, by (if) becoming a sole distributor and retailer investing and operating in "bigger countries" such as China and India and closer to the island state, the ASEAN region (e.g. Malaysia, Indonesia, etc)... the business model may work well. Again, it depends on our global economic situation to see the fruits of its success.
