Cayman CS will shave between 162 and 184 lbs (74 to 84 kg) off the standard Cayman S

Porsche is working on a lightweight version of the Cayman, according to a report by Rennteam.com.

The Cayman Club Sport, or CS, will be lightened by means of aluminum doors, a lightweight hatch, lighter 19-inch wheels similar to those on the GT2 RS, and other components such as fabric door pulls - much like the work done to keep the weight down on the Boxster Spyder. All that will make the CS between 162 and 184 lbs (74 to 84 kg) lighter than a standard Cayman S.

The model will also feature a Sport PASM suspension which lowers the car by 20mm, a duck-tail rear spoiler, offer an optional Track Pack that includes a roll cage and harness, and have CS graphics dotting the car here and there.

Power will spring from a 3.4 liter, direct-injection flat 6-cylinder dialed to the 333 PS (245 kW / 328 bhp) mark, 9 PS (7 kW / 9 bhp) more than the Cayman S. The 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint will take just 4.6 seconds, shaving 0.3 secs off of the standard S model's time, according to Rennteam.

According to the report, Porsche first proposed the model to U.S. and European sales managers, who responded enthusiastically, before going ahead with plans for production.

The Cayman CS is expected to debut at the auto show in Los Angeles this November. The CS will hit dealer showrooms in 2011 as a 2012 model.

Prices for the U.S. market will start at $66,330 (€51,015).

BHP isn't everything... Remember me from the 918 RSR renders [?], well here is a render of it I made. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4142/4830706085_33d4c78f0a_b.jpg Note the fixed ducktail, open air vents, and a new diffuser.

@ moodyaaa , it's not about adding more power , sometimes it's enough to optimize the engine further and make the power available throughout the rev band. the probably got those extra PS from the just the exhaust .

Everyone knows that Porsche’s performance times are underrated.A stock Cayman S with PDK & Sports Chrono can hit 100km in 4.5sec.This car will easily hit low 4’s.

agree ... just irritating this tendency to give only a bit more every time... when ford creates the Focus RS .. they really do it... porsche is always doing by small touches ... this gives the feeling they keep some evolution in their hands for the next time. which is wrong for the GT2 RS by the way and 918... but this is not the same market

Agree with Scratch996! I will take the 200 lbs weight reduction over HP increase in a Cayman anyday. Its so much more about corner exit speed and the ability to go deep into breakzones all day long over hp.
